According to a study carried out by IDC, 111 million wearables will be sold in 2020, an increase of almost 40% compared to 2020.

111 million is the number of wearables expected to be sold in 2020. At least that's what IDC claims. An impressive figure that reflects a growing market. Indeed, around 80 million copies will be sold by the end of the year, an already impressive figure. The big news for this year 2020 is that these wearables will become more and more autonomous, like watches that will integrate a SIM card and, consequently, an LTE connection.

smart health connected watches showing strong growth

If Fitbit is still the first seller in this area, in general, smart health connected watches have the edge. 21 million copies sold this year and 34 million in 2020. Even stronger, in 2019, IDC announces as many as 88 million watches sold, the ultimate proof that this part of the sector is expanding.

The other interesting information is that despite the fairly large number of watches in Android Wear, only 3 million copies with this OS have been sold this year, while the Apple Watch and its homemade OS have been sold no less than 13 million times. Nevertheless, still according to IDC, Android Wear should catch up in the coming years representing 39% of watches sold in 2019. Apple for its part remains hegemonic with an estimate of 51% of market share. Cumulative figures, only 10% of watches sold in 2019 would therefore be equipped with a proprietary OS, which is very little understood. Data that proves that the Android / iOS war is not about to end, despite the growing media.
