7-day battery life and 4G connectivity
After months of speculation, Samsung officially unveiled the Galaxy Watch at its Unpacked event in New York. The smartwatch, which replaces the Gear S3 smart health connected watch. Notable fact: it is the first wearable of the company to join the Galaxy range. Also, it will be compatible with 4G technology and will have a battery life of seven days.
Samsung Galaxy Watch: Design and sizes
Users will also be able to choose between two different sizes for the first time. The watch is available in a 46 mm silver version and in 42 mm black or pink gold.
In terms of physical specifications, the 42mm model will have a 1.2-inch, 360 x 360 Super AMOLED screen, weighing 49g and a display of 41.9 x 45.7 x 12.7mm. Its 46 mm sister, which measures 46 x 49 x 13 mm, weighs 63 g and has a 1.3 inch screen with the same 360 x 360 resolution. Both watches are waterproof with 5ATM certification; allowing you to swim up to 50 meters deep.
Samsung Galaxy Watch: Specifications and Operating System
Both will work with Tizen OS 4.0; and not with Wear OS. We will also find the rotating bezel on both models. The Galaxy Watch also has NFC for payments, 4 GB of internal memory, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and is IP68. There are also many sensors on board: a heart rate monitoring, an accelerometer, a gyroscope, a barometer and an ambient light sensor.
With improved battery life and 4G capabilities, Galaxy Watch technology allows users to free themselves from their smartphones and remain independent.
The watch will be able to automatically detect high stress levels. She will offer users breathing exercises to help them stay relaxed and focused; while following sleep cycles overnight. Then, for more active hours, the Galaxy Watch will be able to offer 21 new exercises. But also to follow a total of 39 training sessions. Finally, it will be possible to record the nutritional information on Bixby Vision on a Galaxy device.
And the integration doesn't end there. Users can control other objects through the SmartThings app, their music through the Spotify app (which includes offline streaming), keep information secure via Samsung Knox, and unlock their computer using Samsung Flow.
We talked about improving the battery life, which differs between the two models. With the Galaxy Watch 46mm, Samsung says you can have about 7 days of low usage. This duration is up to 4 days for the 42 mm version.
So, at least at first glance, the Galaxy Watch seems to be pretty close to rumors; that I told you about. For example, before the official announcement, blood pressure monitoring was touted as a potential feature of the Galaxy Watch system.
