78 million smart health connected objects were sold in 2015!

[ad_1]

While this figure is expected to rise to 411M just for wearables in 2020, a study by research firm IDC informs us today that 78 million smart health connected devices were in circulation in 2015!

Up from 171.6% compared to the only year 2014 which saw the birth of the first smartwatches under Android Wear, this figure is explained in particular by the clear progression of wearables : + 27,4M of sales for a growth of almost 127% !

Fitbit, Xiaomi and Apple remain the only masters of the market thanks to their wearables. Why ? Fitbit, world leader with 26.9% of PDM despite a fall in the stock market, offers very simple and reasonably priced activity trackers, dedicated to sportsmen, the first to be interested in this type of devices after the early adopters. Xiaomifor its part, it is taking advantage of its dominant position in China to offer ultra-competitive price smart health connected wristbands in an incredibly dense market. Finally, Apple has generated a significant marketing effect with the launch of a very expensive Apple Watch – as usual – although its product remains well below what can offer competition, at much lower prices.

Figures from the IDC study

This report clearly illustrates the current reach of smart health connected objects – and especially wearables– which only reaches the technophiles or early adopters, but more broadly a public lambda who gradually discovers smart health connected objects such as a stable aspect of mass markets. The watches and smart health connected bracelets -the quantified-self and gadgets, in fact- being the most solicited, no doubt that this area has a long evolution to know in order to become a classic purchase in homes. health home automation or augmented reality still have long ways to go!

As a reminder, here are the forecasts from CCS Insight, another very reliable firm in the forecasts for new technologies in 2016 and 2020:
