A 3D printed hand prosthesis
Monday, August 17, a 6-year-old child received a three-dimensional printed prosthetic hand. A first in France!
Inexpensive technology. Nowadays, three-dimensional prints are becoming more and more popular. Medicines, cars, everything is possible with a 3D printer. A technology that therefore helps a lot of people, and this is the case of Maxence, 6, born without a right hand. Thanks to the'american association e-NABLE, who takes care of the children victims of malformations, the young boy will be able benefit from a prosthesis hand colorful, free of charge. Having required 10 hours of work, 24 hours of printing and 3 of assembly, the prosthesis joined its owner on August 17.
Multicolored with blue, orange and yellow and flocked with a capital "M", Maxence's new hand is actuated by a simple movement of the wrist. If the event is the first of its kind in France, a prosthesis imitating the 27 bones of the hand has already been created by a student in England. For a relatively affordable price (from 50 to 200 €, depending on the size), this prosthesis is easy to replace in the event of breakage or malfunction. The little Maxence already seems to have gotten used to his new hand!
