A fitness tracker for wheelchairs
Freewheel is the prototype of a fitness tracker dedicated to the use in wheelchairs which was imagined by Chaotic Moon Studios.
Freewheel was designed to measure and take into account elements that are generally not taken into account by other trackers. It will measure more useful information for people in wheelchairs.
One of the company's content strategists Tyler Hively, himself a wheelchair user, came up with the idea when he realized there was no fitness tracker suitable for people like him. Tyler Hively therefore collaborated with the innovation laboratory at Chaotic Moon Studios. The device will be able to take into account the use of additional and necessary muscles to move the wheelchair. The device attaches to a wheelchair and uses a gyroscope, accelerometer, barometer, and speed, acceleration, altitude, tilt, and declination sensors.
Freewheel will be able to transmit data to portable devices via Bluetooth for heart rate monitoring and will connect to smartphones to send notifications and alerts to users. As wheelchair users are not necessarily hands-free, audio alerts have also been provided. Over time, the company hopes to use its smart health smart health connected object to collect information on the terrain where users move. They can then define the best route for hikers, cyclists, etc.

In a statement to TechCrunch, Chaotic Moon Studios CEO Ben Lamm said that the company has already "obtained its patents" and that the device is in the process of being completed. It should be available in the coming months. A fine example that proves that technology and IoT are not necessarily superfluous and useless as some people think. They can also improve people's lives.
