a new generation sleep tracker

Panasonic and the Parsons of School of Design are presenting a few concepts this week at SXSW 2017. Sleepwise is one of the concepts that caught my eye.

Sleepwise is a sleep tracker that is both a smart health connected device and a wearable. Here's how it works. The wearable can be attached to your pillow to analyze your temperature and movement while you sleep. The station on your bedside table monitors room temperature, humidity, air quality, light and your breathing habits.

The good thing is that Sleepwise, created by four Parsons design and technology students, brings together in one device some ideas that we have already seen in several sleep tracking devices. The idea is that the base station can learn your habits. He can know when to go to bed and make sure your room is at the ideal temperature for sleeping; or that the humidity level is adequate. Panasonic would be very interested in commercializing this product.

Other products stood out during SXSW. For example, we have Gobie, a bracelet designed to play while remaining social. It was created by Qinzi Tan. His goal: to show us that face to face interaction makes us happier. This product is equipped with an LED matrix, an accelerometer and a haptic motor which will react when you are close to another wearer of this bracelet. Through a series of five vibrations, you are prompted to shake hands or interact with this person. Personally, I find this product and its concept more than surprising. Have we got to the point where we need a wearable to interact with the people around us? I hope not !
