A smart health connected bracelet to predict the effects of Covid-19
[ad_1]
A study tries to predict with a smart health connected bracelet the respiratory problems caused by Covid-19 on a person. And this, while the coronavirus crisis seems to drag on.
Conducted by scientists from Central Queensland University Australia (CQUniversity), the research will be based on data collected by a fitness tracker from the American startup Whoop.
Follow the evolution of the Covid-19 with a smart health connected bracelet
To do this, at least 500 volunteers tested positive for Covid-19, will carry the device with them. Researchers will therefore be able to observe the evolution of their breathing during the days and weeks following a diagnosis.
In fact, the choice ofusing a Whoop product is not trivial. Another study recently validated the accuracy of their devices' breathing monitoring technology.
Based on this precedent, Australian researchers want to verify if the smart health connected bracelet of the startup will prove also useful against the Covid-19. They especially want detect physiological warning signs of the disease, well before the first symptoms appear.
Why the Whoop 3.0 device could do the trick
According to the startup’s teams, the user's breathing rate raised by their bracelet rarely deviates from the standards established for each person. There are only two exceptions to this finding. On the one hand, anomalies caused by environmental damage (high heat, etc.). On the other, an infection of the lower respiratory tract.
Unlike the flu or a cold, Covid-19 is an infection of the lower respiratory tract. Thereby, frequency variations due to lower respiratory tract infection could be correlated with a positive coronavirus case.
The bracelet could therefore signal effects from the Covid-19 well before the user experiences any change.
Other studies are also underway to take advantage of our smart health connected objects, for example this smart health connected ring, as a means of prevention against coronavirus.
