Access to healthcare and telemedicine: uses and perspectives Ehealth innovation

The start-up Qare has carried out a study on access to healthcare and telemedicine with the IPSOS Health institute. Discovery of the main results.

The lengthening of waiting times to consult a doctor and the scarcity of available medical hours are as many obstacles today to a fluid access to the offer of care. Telemedicine – accessible to all and reimbursed by Social Security as of September 15, 2018 – will help reduce these imbalances with the promise of improving access to healthcare for the French. The start-up Qare and the Ipsos Health Institute are interested in what the French think, patients and doctors.

The 10 key figures of the study

  • 6 in 10 French have already given up consulting a healthcare professional.

  • 38% have waited too long before consulting a doctor for a seemingly benign health problem which has subsequently worsen.

  • 76% of general practitioners and 71% of specialists estimate themselves today over-stressed by their patients.

  • 46% of general practitioners interviewees report that they find it difficult to spend as much time as they would like with their patients.

  • 68% of general practitioners and59% of medical specialists declare that they frequently communicate remotely with their patients (by communicating by telephone, email or SMS).

  • 1 in 2 French declare that they are ready to consult a doctor via a telemedicine consultation, in addition to physical consultations with their attending physician.

  • 60% of French people would be willing to teleconsult for a routine matter for their child.

  • 61% of French people would be ready to teleconsult to quickly obtain a first medical opinion, following a health problem encountered punctually.

  • 85% of general practitioners and 72% of patients believe that telemedicine is a fundamental medical trend.

  • 3 out of 4 doctors are today favorable to the development of telemedicine.

Discovery of the main results in computer graphics

Survey carried out by Ipsos on a sample of 1,011 individuals representative of the French population, as well as 101 liberal general practitioners and 56 specialist physicians. They were interviewed by Internet from March 29 to April 9, 2018. The representativeness of the sample was ensured by the quota method applied to the following variables: sex, age, level of education and profession of the interviewee after stratification by region. and agglomeration category for the general public and gender, age, region, agglomeration category, medical specialty and mode of exercise for health professionals
