Alexa Skill Blueprints – Easily Create Custom Alexa Skills

Amazon recently launched Alexa Skill Blueprints in the United States and the United Kingdom, opening its Alexa platform so that everyone can create a custom Alexa skill.

Skills are essentially small Alexa apps that provide additional functionality to the Amazon Assistant. I am thinking in particular of the popular Jeopardy! A skill that when activated allows you to play.

Tons of free skills are available in the Alexa skill store. But now, thanks to Alexa Skill Blueprints, you can create and publish your own; and you don’t have to be an app developer to do that.

What skills to use Alexa Skill Blueprints

Alexa Skill Blueprints allows you to personalize your Alexa experience. For example, you can create your own family quiz skills instead of using the existing Jeopardy. No coding knowledge is required, as the "Blueprint Templates" offered by Amazon make it easy to create an Alexa skill in minutes.

How many models are available with Alexa Skill Blueprints?

At launch, you can use 20 models in these four categories:

• Fun and games

• At health home

• Storyteller

• Learning and knowledge

How to create an Alexa Skill Blueprints skill?

Then follow these step-by-step instructions:

Visit the Alexa Skill Blueprints website (blueprints.artbzen.com), then log in to your website. If you are using a template for the first time, follow the onscreen tutorial provided.

A blueprint template has three sections: content, experience and name. Each comes with pre-filled content that can be used as personalization or as an add-on.

When you’re done editing content and experience, click Next. Then click on Create a skill. Your custom skill will be in your Amazon account. Just ask Alexa to open your new skill.

Is it possible to publish a skill open to everyone?

Yes. Amazon allows anyone to create and publish Alexa skills. There are currently more than 80,000 Alexa skills, but the store should soon develop with personalized skills generated by users. Amazon is primarily targeting this new functionality for content creators; including companies, brands, organizations, local sports teams, YouTubers, etc.

But everyone is allowed to create and publish a skill.

How to publish your personalized skill?

• Go to the skills page you created.

• Select the skill you want to publish.

• Choose Publish to Skills Store from the menu options.

If your skill is shared, you will need to revoke the sharing to publish it.

How to use a custom Alexa skill with Alexa Skill Blueprints?

If you named your custom skill "Mat Birthday", you can simply say "Alexa, open the Mat Birthday skill". Also, if it is a trivial skill, you will find that you have added to the skill. If it's a story skill, you'll hear the story added, etc.
