ALSO SUFFERED WITH PIGMENT STAINS? – Anti-Aging Secret

[ad_1]

Yes, it’s me, Mo from Anti-Aging Secret :-). A few years and some pigmentation spots ago. As you can see in the big picture, I was really covered in brown spots. Caused by too much sun and pimples. A world of difference with my skin today, just look at this (make-up & filterless) photo.

After treatment

Many thanks to the skin therapists at the Van Rosmalen Kliniek, because they knew what to do with my unsightly facial spots. Because I know that there are more ladies who are disturbed by their pigmentation spots, I asked the Van Rosmalen clinic to make a special item about this. Read below all about pigment discolorations and how you can get rid of them.

What are pigment spots?

Pigmentation spots are common on skin that is regularly exposed to the sun, such as on the face, arms and legs. Pigment (melanin) protects our skin against external influences, such as UV radiation and is produced in the deeper layers of the epidermis. The sun causes the pigment cells to become extra active, causing spots on the skin (discoloration). A well-known variant of pigmentation spots is melasma. These dark brown spots on the face arise during pregnancy and are therefore also called a pregnancy mask.

How do they arise?

Pigment spots are caused by frequently and prolonged exposure of our skin (unprotected) to the sun, which disrupts the production of pigment and increases the risk of hyperpigmentation. In addition to the sun, skin aging (age spots often appear on the face and neck) is a culprit. Diseases such as vitiligo and skin conditions such as acne can also play a role in the development of pigment spots.

Where do they occur in the skin?

Pigmentation spots are most common in areas where the skin is directly exposed to the sun, such as the face, hands and arms. Therefore, protect your skin every day with a sun protection product with a factor of 30 or higher. Even when the sun isn’t shining.

What can be done?

The well-known saying ‘prevention is better than cure’ also applies here. Pigment spots don’t just happen. So protect your skin well, wear a hat and avoid the sun at the hottest time of the day. For the best results, combine sensible sunbathing with treatments at the skin therapist. Do you suffer from deeper pigmentation, caused by skin aging or sun damage? Then opt for a laser treatment. Superficial pigmentation spots can easily be treated with a peeling or microneedling.

Laser

Deeper lying pigment spots are best tackled with the laser. Due to the laser treatment, pigmentation spots first become darker in color and disappear completely after a few weeks. This is also the treatment we have successfully applied to Mo and which she still enjoys years later. The lasered spots will not return, but keep in mind that new pigment spots can always arise under the influence of sun and aging.

Peeling

Superficial pigmentation spots can be treated well with a peeling. A peeling restores the skin barrier, removes pigment spots, prevents dry skin and wrinkle formation. The skin becomes thicker and firmer. For the best results, you can combine a peeling with hyaluronic acid or vitamin C serum.

Microneedling

With microneedling you renew the deeper layers of the skin by making small holes in the skin without damaging it. The result is fresh and even skin. Microneedling in combination with hyaluronic acid or vitamin C makes the skin firmer and thicker. It also improves the skin texture.

Can we treat every skin type against pigmentation spots?

Fair skin types are best treated. With a dark skin type, there is a danger that the pigment in the skin will be damaged. Treatments are therefore best done in the autumn. The number of treatments is determined by examining whether it concerns superficial or deeper pigmentation spots. After the treatment it is important to protect your skin extra well against the sun, but avoiding the sun is also very important.

Skincare

Beautiful skin starts at home. Therefore, invest in cosmeceuticals. These are skin care products with a high concentration of active ingredients such as vitamin C (reduces pigment formation without affecting the skin cells) and vitamin E (depigments and ensures an even complexion). The regular use of products with high percentages of vitamins C and E (such as the brand SkinCeuticals) ensures that pigmentation spots fade and eventually disappear.

Which skin care products help against pigmentation spots?

According to the Van Rosmalen clinic, SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF serum is a product that should not be missing in your bathroom. It contains a high concentration of vitamin C, which ultimately leads to an even skin. We also recommend the SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF in combination with the SkinCeuticals Advanced Pigment Corrector in the fight against pigmentation spots. The ingredient salicylic acid provides a mild exfoliating effect that brightens the pigment. The last step in your morning beauty routine is to apply a sun protection product such as Skinceuticals Mineral Radience UV Defense SPF50.
