Amazfit X – Huami's curved smartwatch to be launched in 2020

Huami has finally unveiled its Amazfit X smartwatch. Already suggested during the launch of its Amazfit GTS and Amazfit GTR smart watches and its Stratos 3 sports watch, this curved watch will therefore become a reality.

Amazfit X is still at the concept stage. Thus, certain elements may be brought to change. The smartwatch has a prominent curved touchscreen and is expected to hit the market in one form or another in 2020.

The Amazfit X watch has no physical buttons. Instead, Huami says he hid "electronic" buttons on the side of the screen. Which, let's assume, will be of the capacitive type. This screen is sized at 2.07 inches, with a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch (PPI). A decent display given its curved form factor, with exactly the same PPI on paper as the Apple Watch Series 4.

Huami said the manufacturing process to produce a reliable curved screen like this is almost operational. The metal body of the watch is subjected to heat of 700 degrees. It is slowly formed into the required curvature. Instead of a curved motherboard, which does not yet exist, Huami segments it into three parts in the internal components of the watch.

For a concept, I find that Huami has a lot of details to provide on the Amazfit X; even to his battery. The brand will house a 220mAh battery, which will also be curved, and should have a battery life of 7 days between two charges. The brand also promises a brightness of 430 nits; which isn’t really impressive.

Curved smart watches are no longer extravagant ideas in the minds of manufacturers. As proof, the Nubia Alpha, unveiled earlier this year. The Alpha wasn’t really a curved smartwatch you’d like to wear, but it’s a first step. I think the Amazfit X will eclipse it without any worries when it is released next year.
