Amazon, Apple and Google want to develop a common standard for the smart health connected health home

[ad_1]

Apple, Amazon and Google announced Wednesday December 18, 2019 that they will form a working group to develop a new open communication standard for smart health connected objects. Called "Project smart health connected health home over IP", this working group wishes to rely on the Internet protocol in order to develop this new standard which is in addition to those currently used by manufacturers. The goal: to make all the smart health connected objects in the same house communicate with each other, regardless of their brand.

Beyond the three giants that are Apple, Amazon and Google, Zigbee has also joined this project. This alliance, formed around one of the main communication protocols used in the smart health connected health home field, brings together companies such as IKEA, Great, Somfy, Schneider Electric, NXP Semiconductors, Resideo, Samsung SmartThings, Signify (formerly Philips Lighting), Silicon Labs and Wulian.

Encourage the use of voice assistants

Currently, a consumer wishing to connect his entire health home must turn to specific brands since not all objects can communicate with each other. The working group wishes to develop a new communication standard that is open, robust and secure. Free, it would be superimposed on those used by different manufacturers. This would greatly promote interoperability for consumers: they could connect objects of different brands compatible with this protocol, as well as cloud applications and services.

Amazon, Google and Apple would quickly find their account there. These market voice assistants (Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri), which can be used to control smart health connected objects… provided they are compatible. The goal of Project smart health connected health home over IP is to develop a communication standard that is used by a maximum of manufacturers for their smart health connected objects, which would make them compatible with these voice assistants.
