Amazon Echo Dot – A light version of Amazon Echo with Alexa
Amazon Echo Dot was officially unveiled by Amazon today. It’s a smaller version of its now famous Alexa digital assistant.
Amazon Echo Dot was therefore presented today at the same time as the Amazon Tap. As a reminder, the Tap is a small Bluetooth speaker also carrying Alexa. But back to Echo Dot. The Echo Dot looks a bit like a crushed version of the first cylindrical speaker. It looks more like a remote control for setting up a surround sound system. Only two small buttons are visible on the surface of the device.
Basically, the Amazon Echo Dot uses the same voice recognition technology as the original Amazon Echo with the blue illuminating ring on top to let you know when Alexa, the voice search assistant, is listening. The big difference here is that you can connect the Dot to your speakers via Bluetooth or an audio cable.
If the sound of the first generation of Echo was not exceptional, with this version, you will be able to listen to Alexa's responses on your speakers. Obviously, you can therefore use it to ask him to play your music, turn on and off your lights, buy a pizza, order a Uber, check your flight, etc. In short, everything you would do with Echo. Ideal for integrating and controlling your existing health home automation installation using voice.
The Amazon Echo Dot costs $ 89.99, which is much cheaper than the original Echo, which costs $ 179.99, and the Tap, which costs $ 129.99. The two new products are available for pre-order now on the Amazon site. As a reminder, last year Amazon opened the Alexa API for developers, which means these new devices may not be the only ones to ship the now famous Alexa virtual assistant.
