Amazon forced by justice to limit itself to "essential goods"

Amazon will also idle during containment. According to a court ruling in Nanterre, the company will only have to send essential goods, under penalty of heavy fines.

It’s an earthquake for Amazon in this period of containment: the Nanterre court has forced the e-commerce giant to limit its activity "essential goods"for the next four weeks. This decision follows a summons from the Solidaire union union which denounced on March 8 the "health and social bomb"that represented Amazon warehouses across France. A situation that had pushed the workforce to desert the logistics centers, where, according to the unions, the rate of absenteeism was around 50% (20% according to management from Amazon France).

DELIBERATE @AmazonFrance : the judge orders to limit, within 24 hours and under penalty of 1 million per day of delay, the activity with essential goods in the period while awaiting an evaluation of the epidemic risks by associating with it the representatives of the personnel!

The American company must therefore within 24 hours "restrict the activity of its warehouses to the activities of receiving goods, preparing and dispatching orders for food products, hygiene products and medical products"otherwise she will have to pay a million euros a day late. A victory for the unions who asked to reduce the activity of the group in France"to 10% of essential goods"in order to reduce mechanically in warehouses"the number of present and allowing the protective measures implemented in cascade really produce their effects, which the promiscuity makes ineffective"

Security obligation

The firm of Jeff Bezos had already announced at the end of March to reduce the sails and "prioritize orders for the most important products", but the effects of this announcement were long overdue according to Solidaires. In early April, before the action of the unions, the Minister of Labor Muriel Pénicaud had already tapped on the fingers of the company by explaining that"protecting employees is not negotiable in a company, it is an obligation."An intervention which did not escape the courts who explains in his judgment that the company has "Obviously, ignored its obligation of safety and prevention of the health of the employees."

After the Parisien, this limitation should last one month, but can be extended if necessary.
