ANSES judges Linky counter harmless for health

[ad_1]

More and more we are surrounded by smart health connected objects. With WiFi or Bluetooh, these devices emit waves, just like our smartphones for example. At the moment there is no real study proving that these waves are benign or on the contrary if some are right to worry. Currently it is the new Linky smart meter that is controversial. However, according to the latest ANSES study, this meter designed by ErDF would not be more dangerous to health than a TV for example.

Many French and consumer associations are worried about installing the new Linky smart health connected meter in homes. Even mayors oppose these counters of a new kind. Meter deployment began more than a year ago and will continue until 2021, when 90% of homes will be equipped. However, this device, which communicates through the power grid, is it dangerous to health ? No answer categorically the National Agency of Sanitary Security (ANSES) who has just submitted his report.

The waves emitted by the Linky meter would be harmless

This report will perhaps reassure the thousands of French who fear that the electromagnetic waves emitted by the counter new generation Linky affect more or less long term their health. Indeed, the meter emits waves but the radiation produced would be 200 times lower than the regulatory exposure limit according to the measurements made by ANSES.

" Linky meters are generating exposure comparable to other electrical equipment already used in our homes for many years, such as television, laptop charger or induction hob. "Said the head of the Physical Risk Assessment Unit at ANSES, Olivier Merckel.

A multiplication of smart health connected meters

ANSES also looked at the new gas meters, GAZPAR, deployed by GRDF as well as the water meters of Suez and Veolia. These new generation meters use radio waves to communicate their data, 2 to 6 times a day. The observation is the same, the radiation is very weak, lower than that issued by mobile phones, says the health agency.

However, the associations are worried about the multiplication of this kind of counters. If there are 3 appliances per household in a large building, this multiplies the exposure to the waves. To further its study, the Agency has engaged the building science and technology center (CSTB) to carry out real measurements, which will make it possible to compare the exposure to which the inhabitants possessing the old meter are subjected with that of the inhabitants equipped with these modern counters. The results should be presented in the coming weeks.
