Apple files patent for virtual speakers that improve sound spatialization

[ad_1]

No longer limit the diffusion of sound to only the screen and keyboard. This is the meaning of a new patent filed by Apple Tuesday December 31 and spotted by Patently apple. This new technology would have the advantage of not requiring speakers or a health home cinema to propagate sound farther than a computer. This immersive system, in development for a few months already, constitutes a sound version of augmented reality. The apple brand could apply it on its next products, a pair of glasses and a headset … before arriving on the Mac?

IMPROVE SOUND SENSATIONS

The process is based on the artificial cancellation of certain phases in the propagation of sound. It is technically possible to put two sound signals of the same frequency in opposition so that they cancel each other over a preset distance. This has the effect of delaying the moment when the listener will perceive the noise … and, therefore, giving him the impression that the source of the sound is not where it is, however, physically (diagram below). The patent application was made on August 23, 2018. This should allow Apple to avoid any complaint, when a doctor accuses him of using his EKG technology on his smart health connected watch.

The apple brand wants, with this immersive system, to improve the feelings of presence and positioning offered by its products. A technology that is of interest in ehealth games, movies and series as well as sporting events. Since launching its AppleTV + ehealth-on-demand service, the company founded by Steve Jobs has focused on content production. Other B2B use cases are being explored before the release of smart glasses and headphones – ideal for conference calls.
