Apple: Tim Cook wants to believe that the iPhone will mark humanity less than the Apple Watch

Apple boss Tim Cook talks about the success of the iPhone, to speak more about the Apple Watch. The leader estimated December 10, 2019 in an interview with the Japanese economic daily Nikkei that the health features of the Apple Watch including their integrated EKG, will have more impact on humanity.

Tim Cook is currently "on tour" with his suppliers and Japanese Apple Store. The manager also had the opportunity to give interviews, including one to the rather surprising economic daily Nikkei. The leader affirms there indeed that the iPhone is not the "Apple's greatest contribution to humanity". According to Tim Cook, this contribution is actually the health features of the Apple Watch.

"If you ask me what is Apple's greatest contribution to humanity, I would say that it is in the health field", he explains, to better showcase the Apple Watch and its EKG function. "Until now, there were very few people who performed EKGs in the year a very small percentage of the population", he continues.

According to him, this feature alone saves lives. Cases of people who are rescued are regularly seen appearing because their smartwatch alerted them to heart abnormalities that they would not have detected otherwise than through a visit to a cardiologist. The electrocardiogram functionality is recognized by healthcare professionals in the United States

Now Apple Watches are selling quite well – they keep an overwhelming market share in smartwatches. Anything new on this side therefore has a significant impact, since it puts a medical examination for which it is normally necessary to go through a course of care on the wrist of millions of users.

However, the Apple Watch is still far from being able to measure up to the iPhone. The Apple Watch is only compatible with Apple smartphones, and therefore only targets a small percentage of these users. However, success in this area could encourage competitors to integrate the same functionality into their smartwatch, or even go further, for example with a device capable of measuring the blood sugar level.
