[Apple Watch] An app to monitoring glucose levels

[ad_1]

Apple’s smartwatch has been getting a lot of attention lately. The Wall Street Journal this Sunday claimed that an app will track blood sugar levels regularly. Such an application would be ideal for diabetics.

Developed by DexCom, the application has already been approved by the US FDA (Class III type) and would therefore allow the glucose level to be monitored directly on the smart health connected watch. The measurements will be taken every 5 minutes, according to the source cited by the powerful American newspaper. As such, the Apple Watch does not have a glucose sensor, so it’s using a small chip that will need to be placed under the skin that information can be transferred to the mobile app. However, no information was given on the method of injecting this sensor under the skin.

At the moment, no smart health connected watch / bracelet has a glucose sensor. Rumors have long claimed that the Microsoft Band would be able to perform such measurements, but it is not much. When you know the potential that such a use can have, it would be surprising not to see it arriving on the market this year. One can imagine that Apple is already thinking of integrating such a sensor in a later version of its device, especially since it intends to make the watch a central element of its health ecosystem, HealthKit. A study has also proven the success of this platform with American clinics since 60% of the 20 largest hospitals in the country are currently experimenting with remote monitoring of patients using the Health application.

So far, neither Apple nor DexCom has formalized the app.
