Apple Watch: Company Files Complaint Against Apple For Patent Theft
Apple is sued by the American company Masimo. The company specializing in the development of health monitoring devices says that Apple has used several of their patented technologies to develop the latest Apple Watch.
According to Masimo and its subsidiary Cercacor Laboratoire, Apple has stolen around ten of their patents. Thanks to them, the apple brand would have notably developed the sensors of the Apple Watch series 4 and 5 intended to measure the oxygen level in the blood and the heart rate. For representatives of Masimo and Cercacor, Apple has knowingly hijacked these technologies.
According to Masimo, Apple had contacted the company in 2013 to discuss a potential partnership, which focused on the Apple Watch. Instead of taking part in the development together, the iPhone manufacturer has poached several important Masimo employees, starting with Michael O'Reilly, ex-chief medical officer of Masimo, who has now become vice president of the technologies department. health at Apple. An engineer also left Masimo to join the California company.

Two ex-employees have revealed all these secrets
However, it turns out that the two men had both worked on patented technologies which are at the heart of the dispute. For Masimo, it is clear that these former employees have disclosed confidential information to their new employer: Apple. Masimo and Cercacor Laboratoire claim damages for " infringement of one or more patents filed " and requests that an injunction be issued to ensure that none of these technologies can be used by Apple in the future.
At the moment, there is no information on the progress of the complaint, nor even if a trial will actually take place. Furthermore, the amount of damages claimed by Masimo and Cercacor is still unknown. For its part, Apple has not yet officially reacted to these serious accusations. This is not the first time that Apple has been the subject of complaints of this kind. In March 2019, the Cupertino company lost its lawsuit against Qualcomm for having infringed three founder's patents.
