application in the service of language disorders

The company Equadex is launching a new application to promote communication for people with language disorders: Helpicto. Discovery.

In France, 700,000 people suffer from autism spectrum disorders, of which 14% are children, and only 23% of children are cared for properly and educated.

People with communication and understanding disabilities suffer from isolation, develop behavioral disorders, and do not always have access to the services and supports they need.

To address this problem, the Toulouse-based company EQUADEX, in partnership with the association Inpacts, launched Helpicto: a tactile and interactive application which facilitates communication with people with autism.

Helpicto presents itself as a fun and complete tool, a real common thread between the different places of life: family at health home, in the medical, hospital, or school environment.

Generally, autistic children have their own pictogram binder, but it is not always easy to use it: either the wrong card is missing, or it has been lost or forgotten at health home, parents must laminate the pictograms to avoid any deterioration during use etc. Many sources of stress which do not facilitate the child's learning.

Equadex with Helpicto provides a real solution with an easy-to-use application, where artificial intelligence enables image and voice recognition, and automatically translates language into pictograms, and vice versa.

" I speak, I give information to Arthur and it is translated by the Helpicto application instantly into a pictogram, then orally. It’s much more fun and easier, he understands better. Karine, mother of 15-year-old Arthur.

Promote and simplify communication

Thanks in particular to a partnership with the Canadian company IDÉOpicto, supplier of pictograms, Helpicto allows the user to create a unique and customizable profile in addition to the 3000 pictograms available, thanks to image recognition, by taking photos of objects from daily or family members.

To help the user to be even more autonomous, the application offers to record sequences of daily rituals: dressing, going to bed, etc. During a sequence, the first pictogram corresponds to the first stage of the ritual, which is then read aloud by speech synthesis. The pictogram does not change until the step is completed; simple, sequenced and repetitive information allows a better understanding and integration of the action.

Helpicto facilitates communication between the person with language disorders and those around him through artificial intelligence, syntax analysis and intention detection; so that the user can simply respond to the instruction. The application uses artificial intelligence technologies with voice recognition and image recognition to automatically transform spoken language into pictograms. The voice is then translated into a visual message allowing the user to understand the message.

Personalizing the visuals and creating sequences allows the application to evolve. The more you use Helpicto , the richer the application becomes. Available on all Microsoft, Google and Apple platforms, on smartphones, tablets and computers, the Helpicto individual license costs € 6 / month without obligation.
