AR Apple glasses could go on sale in 2020
AR Apple glasses shouldn't be too late. Apple could start producing its own augmented reality glasses or headset later this year; according to renowned industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
In his latest report, he estimated that the first AR Apple glasses will compete directly with that of Google; the Google Glass. These smartglasses will be mass produced from the fourth quarter of 2019; or from the beginning of 2020 at the latest. But Apple has a vested interest in making them available to the public next year.
The Ming-Chi Kuo report also suggests that Apple’s device will be entirely dependent on an iPhone to operate. It will not have its own independent Internet connection or GPS tracking technology.
In fact, it has been said that the AR Apple glasses or the AR Apple headset would not even have a processor as such. The iPhone will do most of the work, including rendering and computing. That’s my first bad point for these smartglasses. Personally, I am not a fan of products that necessarily require a smartphone to function. In fact, in the end, they could resemble the concept of glasses imagined by Marti Hajek for iDrop News.
Without needing a lot of technology tucked into the branches, Apple’s AR glasses could be light and stylish. We all know that design is an important, not to say decisive, element for the apple brand. Of course, battery life can be an issue; if you cannot place a sufficient battery inside the product. Also, we do not yet know how an image will be projected on the glasses; but we will know more in the coming months.
As a reminder, Apple had a patent approved in 2016 that showed augmented reality glasses, but it's hard to see exactly what they would look like from the rudimentary designs that had been provided.
