Artificial intelligence for sports wearables
PIQ has announced that it will add "authentic artificial intelligence" to its sports wearables. But what does it mean and what does it imply? The name of this new system: GAIA.
GAIA is a stand-alone system that must be combined with the company's PIQ Robot sensor. The objective is clear: it must be able to provide athletes with detailed information so that they can improve and achieve their objectives.
PIQ says GAIA is the first artificial intelligence system to independently understand microscopic variation in sports movements. Still according to the company, this performance is made possible thanks to motion capture algorithms. This invention required two years of research and development. Two years during which "millions of movements of thousands of different athletes" were analyzed. Once again, therefore, we realize the importance of data.
Combined with PIQ Robot, it will allow users to monitoring their performance, see how to improve and exploit what PIQ calls "Winning Factors" which selects the strengths (and weaknesses) that the athlete wants to improve.
"With GAIA and the Winning Factors, sportswear enters a new paradigm," said Cédric Mangaud, CEO and co-founder of PIQ. “Our technology allows athletes not only to measure their performance, but also to benefit from personalized advice and get closer to victory. "
Cédric Mangaud said at the same time that the goal is now to integrate technology into wearables for sport. PIQ has already teamed up with certain companies to use these intelligent sensors in tennis, golf, skiing and kitesurfing. More generally, any device already using PIQ Robot can have its software upgraded and use GAIA immediately.
