Asus introduces Apple Watch competitor VivoWatch SP

Asus is returning to the smart health connected watch market with the VivoWatch SP. She has an electrocardiogram and is awaiting authorization from health organizations to set up blood pressure analysis functions.

The VivoWatch SP is added to the family of smart health connected watches that integrate an electrocardiogram. Asus, better known for its computers, presented it at the IFA in Berlin. The manufacturer wants to make it the perfect fitness companion found more and more on the wrists of athletes.

Thus, the VivoWatch SP could integrate in the near future blood pressure analysis functions. This requires that health organizations grant the accessory medical device status. This is not not something that is assigned easily. Asus is not, in this regard, not its first try. Indeed, the previous model, the VivoWatch PB, already had similar characteristics and functions, but never the one for blood pressure, despite requests.

The VivoWatch SP a real tool for athletes

For the rest, the VivoWatch SP has a GPS and an optical heart rate sensor which is able to measure SpO2. That is to say, it can give oxygen levels in the blood. It also integrates an altimeter and the HealthConnect application allows you to program a running pace. The runner is then warned by vibrations if he is going too fast or too slow. The smartwatch is waterproof and can go up to 50 meters underwater. Finally, the battery life should keep it going for 14 days.

This is the only information at the moment. We don't know nothing about the price or even the release date of the VivoWatch SP. Asus may be waiting to be sure it gets the certificates it needs to move it into the medical device category. It depends on the different regulations in force depending on the country.
