Confinement is equivalent to spending more time with family, cooking, putting away, reading and catching up on late TV series, but also doing physical exercise. The proof is that everything related to fitness has been a resounding success.
In the midst of the new coronavirus pandemic, the world is idling and measures of containment and / or social distancing prevail to limit the spread of Covid-19. In this context, people's activity is limited and many seek to compensate by adopting a health home sports routine. Foxintelligence (via LSA) thus noted, for example, an explosion in sales of sporting goods (+ 54%) in general, and fitness (+ 175%) in particular. It sold nearly nine times more skipping ropes in France than usual at the start of confinement, and eight times more elastic bands and gym mats.
Explosion of downloads
A trend on which obviously the fitness applications, extremely numerous and varied, whether it is to talk in 7 min of daily activity or to embark on a much more complete program over time. According to App Annie, a benchmark firm in the analysis of the applications market, health and fitness apps benefited from a 40% increase in downloads worldwide compared to the weekly average for January and February. Thus, during the week of March 22, 59 million downloads of apps of this type were recorded, generating some $ 36 million in revenue (+ 10%).
Increasing usage
Besides this sudden increase in downloads, the overall use of this type of application has of course also exploded, many users having found the time (or the motivation) to relaunch a sports or health app. In all the countries analyzed, there has been an increase in uses, Italy (+ 70%), France (+ 60%) and Japan (+ 60%) representing the largest increases, even if it is in China, the United United and South Korea that these applications are – by far – the most used.
In the top 10 sports and health apps downloaded during the week of March 22, in addition to a meditation application, there are essentially 30-day programs to lose weight or build concrete abs. The number one app is none other than health home Workout, which specifies that you do not need any equipment, only working muscles and cardio at body weight. Note also the great breakthrough, in second position, of the Nike sports app (Nike Training Club, or NTC). Logical insofar as the brand chose to support the Covid-19 pandemic by offering premium access to it, usually at a cost.
