The Californian company BACtrack wins a competition in the United States thanks to its smart health connected bracelet which measures the blood alcohol level with the user's sweat.

BACtrack is an American company based in San Francisco, known for producing breathalyzers not only for the state, but also for individuals. But if she won first prize in a competition, it was for a different type of blood alcohol level monitoring: a bracelet similar to those of Fitbit and other activity trackers, but which detects your alcohol level thanks to your sweat.

The National Institutes of Health (National Institute of Health) organized an event competition on alcohol trackers, the winner of which won the grand prize of $ 200,000: the Wearable Alcohol Biosensor Challenge. BACtrack’s victory with its Skyn, which detects alcohol using fuel cell technology similar to that used by law enforcement. However, Skyn is less bulky and more discreet than existing equipment.

BACtrack Skyn saves your breath

BACtrack Skyn can absolutely replace the devices that the police use, since alcohol can take up to 45 minutes to ooze from our skin. But authorities and researchers could use it to monitoring a person’s blood alcohol level continuously. You can even get it for your personal use if you want to keep an eye on your little aperitif habits or even show the results to your doctor afterwards.

The device will warn you if you consume too much to stop, especially if you are driving. In addition, BACtrack Skyn will notify a family member if they detect too much alcohol in your blood when you are supposed to be sober.

The BACtrack bracelet beat eight other devices dedicated to monitoring blood alcohol levels presented at National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. The NIH proposed this competition in order to find a discreet and portable technology that can be used both by the authorities and by the general public. Of these eight proposals, seven were similar wearables, while the eighth was a color changing tattoo if there is alcohol in the blood.

Since the organization has judged the devices on the accuracy of their data, it is clear that Skyn is the most accurate wearable alcohol detector at the moment.
