Big Data and Co. – digital ways to more security?

Hardy Müller, managing director of the APSFrom the electronic health card to the digital networking of practices – the new Federal Minister of Health, Jens Spahn, wants to quickly drive digitalization in the healthcare system, says Hardy Müller, Managing Director of the APS. A majority of citizens would use an electronic patient record, as surveys show. However, from the perspective of the GSP, what patients can actually expect from this file and the electronic health card and what the data protection situation looks like has not yet been sufficiently clarified. "Whether the treatment for patients is really safer and better through the electronic patient record and mobile applications must be examined at the same time," says Marcel Weigand, board member of the APS. "It is important that we keep an eye on patient safety issues in digital developments so that in the end it is not just the economy that benefits."

Although the digital change in healthcare is progressing rapidly, there are no central points of contact for funding digital projects, criticize the APS representatives. There were also no uniform criteria for this. "It must not depend on chance or on the financial strength of the providers whether digital offers move into everyday care," says Weigand. "We call for a agreed assessment benchmark for digital offerings in healthcare, in which the benefit and the safety of the applications for patients play a central role."
