Blaze – The new FitBit smartwatch

Blaze is the name of the new FitBit smartwatch. I present it as a smartwatch even if it is not really a smartwatch since it does not offer all the features offered by a real smartwatch.

Blaze was presented at CES 2016 in Las Vegas. This new 200 dollar watch is aesthetically strange but not necessarily ugly. In any case, it surprises! The watch indeed offers a hexagonal shape, with stainless steel case and an elastomer strap. Its LCD screen makes it the brand's first product with a color touch screen. Despite this, the FitBit Blaze seems less sophisticated than some of its competitors.

Even so, it will allow you to measure and track your daily performance, sleep, calories burned, and 15 different types of exercise. The FitStar app was installed natively on the watch. This is a company acquired by Fitbit last year that offers guided workouts. As with other Fitbit products, your activity data can be shared wirelessly with iOS, Android and Windows smartphones, as well as desktop computers.

The FitBit Blaze is also able to automatically detect activities such as running, walking, tennis, basketball, soccer and workouts on an elliptical machine. Just turn on your watch to record your activity. FitBit explains that this is possible thanks to the large amount of user data anonymized and collected over the years. If the Blaze does not have a built-in GPS, it does use that of smartphones. It does however have optical heart rate sensors and will take your heart rate every five seconds during the day and every second during training sessions.

In short, if this watch seems sufficiently accomplished, without being exceptional, I think that the design may still put off.
