Blind Cap – Samsung is developing a swimming cap for the blind

Samsung is constantly innovating at the moment; especially in the field of sport. This time, the South Korean brand unveils Blind Cap: a smart health connected swimming cap dedicated to professional blind swimmers.

Blind Cap works hand in hand with the Gear S2 smartwatch and vibrates when Paralympic swimmers have to turn around at the end of a length. Currently, to turn at the right time, swimmers are helped by a team member who taps them on the back or on the head.

The Blind Cap from Samsung was developed in partnership with the Spanish Paralympic Committee and Cheil Spain. Alerts are controlled, of course, through a dedicated application. This app is used by the swimmer's trainer and is compatible with the Gear S2 smartwatch and Android smartphones. The coach simply needs to press the smartwatch or the phone once to alert the swimmer. In addition to this, the smart health connected cap can collect data on the swimmer's performance. For the moment, we do not yet know what these data will be.

This smart swimming cap was created only for professional swimmers but it is not specified if it will be authorized during competitions. FYI, the current method of preventing swimmers has been in use since blind swimming became a Paralympic sport in 1960. Yet Breno Cotta, Creative Director of Cheil Spain, seems confident: "It's much more than a wearable. We are confident that it will soon be used for the Paralympic Games. "
