Blood Pressure Monitors Review Overview 2019: The Best in Comparison
[ad_1]
Blood pressure monitor Purchase advice: Equipment and quality criteria
When choosing a measuring device, the following factors should be observed:
Measurement type: Depending on your personal preference, an upper arm or wrist device can be selected. While the upper arm sphygmomanometer is a bit more cumbersome, but usually provides more accurate values, wrist sphygmomanometers are particularly compact and ideal for travel luggage. However, their use is not recommended for smokers, diabetics or people with vascular disease. Age-related vascular constrictions on the wrist can also occur in seniors and falsify measured values determined there. If you want to be on the safe side, so better access the classic upper arm sphygmomanometer.
cuff size: The standard cuff size of 13.5-21.5 centimeters for wrist gauges and 22-42 centimeters for upper arm gauges fits in most cases. If the cuff is still too tight or too wide, it must be replaced with a suitable model.
Memories: The devices we tested have 30-200 memory locations for readings. Especially handy: some also calculate an average of the data (e.g., Medisana BU 510). Important: Once the space is full, old data will be overwritten. It is therefore worthwhile, in addition always a classic blood pressure pass to fill.
Upper arm blood pressure monitor with arrhythmia display and WHO traffic light color scale for precise blood pressure measurement
display: A large display also helps people with visual impairments to read the data correctly. Our favorite Omron RS2 also displays a graphical classification for easy classification of the values.
Quality: As products with CE markers do not guarantee measuring accuracy, the Deutsche Hochdruckliga e.V. (DHL) also tests blood pressure monitors and awards their Review seal to reliable models. Some blood pressure monitors also offer a blood pressure rating scale according to the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO). By Stiftung Warentest tested in the laboratory and recommended for purchase were both our favorite Omron RS2 (1st place) and its cheap alternative boso medistar + (2nd place).
Price: Good equipment does not have to be expensive: Cheap models are already available for less than 20 euros. Our favorite, who is also the winner of Stiftung Warentest, is around 27 euros in the lower middle field.
Maintenance & Care: After purchase, each meter should be calibrated in a pharmacy and, if regularly used, should be occasionally reconciled with physician readings to prevent dangerous measurement errors.

Recommendation Wrist Gauge Omron RS2: Sieger Stiftung Warentest
According to Stiftung Warentest, Omron RS2 offers "good measuring and repeatability." Furthermore, according to the experts, this sphygmomanometer is "hardly susceptible to faults." For its good quality is also awarded the seal of approval of the German Hypertension League and the many positive customer reviews. The only small drawback: neither App nor graphical evaluation of the measured data are offered by the manufacturer.
Omron RS2 already measures when inflating the cuff

Omron RS2 Review Overview: Experiences and Tests in ComparisonSo far, the majority of testers and users are very satisfied with this blood pressure monitor and only the comparatively small number of memory locations has been criticized by some users.

The team of testberichte-und-testsieger.com referred to the results of Stiftung Warentest. It praised the high accuracy, the ease of use and the good price-performance ratio. As a disadvantage, the operators of the comparison portal see the small number of memory locations. (As of: 09/2018)

Cheap alternative: boso medistar + wrist sphygmomanometer
At Stiftung Warentest, boso medistar + came second only just behind the Review winner. Its advantages: It is cheaper than Omron RS2, can also calculate averages and display on a scale. Alternative with many memory locations: Hylogy MD-H21 in the Review overview
With 120 memory slots, Hylogy MD-H21 offers enough capacity even with frequent use. Immediately after the measurement, the collected data is converted into a blood pressure rating scale according to WHO guidelines and displayed clearly. In contrast to the models already presented, the Hylogy MD-H21 can also score with a date and time display on the large display. On the other hand, it does not (yet) have a seal of approval from the German High Pressure League.
This blood pressure monitor is also suitable for seniors and pregnant women according to the manufacturer
(Hylogy)
Hylogy MD-H21 Review overview: reviews by comparisonCurrently, there are hardly any customer ratings or Review results for this blood pressure monitor, which was introduced to the market until 2018.

Recommendation Upper arm sphygmomanometer: boso medicus X
According to Stiftung Warentest, the boso medicus X upper arm sphygmomanometer is the "best (…) arm apparatus in the Review" and also convinces us with its easy handling, a large display and a reliable measurement without after-pumping.
With only 30 memory slots, its capacity is in the lower range of the models we tested, it measures very fast and takes only 21 seconds to collect the blood pressure values.
The boso medicus X Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor offers one-button operation
(Boso)
boso medicus X review: reviews by comparisonAs a practical entry-level model without much frills, boso medicus X convinced not only Stiftung Warentest but also many private users. As a disadvantage, however, we see the lack of arrhythmia detection.
boso medicus X was named Review winner in the category upper arm blood pressure monitors in issue 05/2016 of Stiftung Warentest. The experts in their Review report praised the practical one-hand operation and the very good instructions for use. They did not like the storage of the values without date or time display.

Cheap alternative: Medisana BU 510 Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor
Significantly cheaper than the Review winner is the Medisana BU 510 Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor. Its features include a generously dimensioned display that displays systole, diastole, heart rate, date and time. The Medisana BU 510 can be used by two different users, each with 90 memory slots.
A large display also allows people with visual impairment to use the meter
(Medisana)
Medisana BU 510 Review Overview: Experiences and Tests in ComparisonSome customer reviews indicate that the cuff is badly processed and the battery is too fast. However, most users are very satisfied with above-average ratings for the Medisana BU 510 Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor.
In the blood pressure device comparison 2018 of stern.com reached the Medisana BU 510 upper arm blood pressure meter the 1st place. Above all, the testers were impressed by the practical traffic light display and the possibility that the device could be used by two different users. (As of 09/2018)
The team from Blutdruckmessgeraete-tests.com awarded for BU 510 Medisana 4.7 out of 5 stars. Decisive for this very good rating were above all the measuring accuracy and the large, clear display, with which the handling is also simplified for older people. The minimum point deduction was only for the sometimes poor quality of the processing. (As of: 09/2018)

Who should regularly measure blood pressure?
The high risk of hypertension lies in the resulting creeping and often unnoticed damage to internal organs. Therefore, everyone should check his blood pressure regularly to see if everything is okay and able to react if necessary.
The blood pressure of children is generally lower than that of adults

What can be the cause of hypertension?
The causes of hypertension are very diverse and can be, for example, in a metabolic disorder, kidney disease or vascular disease. Also negative are stress, overweight, heavy alcohol consumption and nicotine on the blood pressure.
Perform blood pressure measurement – that's how it works
When measuring blood pressure, there are some basic things to keep in mind:
Avoid physical exertion for 30 minutes before the measurement and do not eat, drink alcohol or drink coffee or smoke.
Sit down quietly 5 minutes before the session and settle down.
Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, take the measurement on the left arm.
While measuring, position both legs straight and do not cross over. Sit upright and calm.
Ideally, measure regularly at the same time of day and switch off any possible sources of interference (TV, digital radio, etc.).
Resting momentum and proper arm posture are crucial when measuring
(Racle Photo Design / Adobe Stock)
Blood pressure measured on the upper arm:
Release the arm and, if not otherwise prescribed by the doctor, always attach the cuff to the left upper arm.
If the arm is placed relaxed on a table, the upper arm measuring device is usually automatically at heart level.
Always pause for at least five minutes between multiple measurements.
Measuring blood pressure on the wrist:
Remove watch, bracelets or other potential interfering with the wrist.
Put the cuff 1-1.5 cm below the handball. Position the display of the sphygmomanometer on the inside of the wrist.
Keep the meter at heart level. In order to move as little as possible during the measurement, support the elbow at the table.
Always pause for at least five minutes between multiple measurements.
Measurement on the wrist is not suitable for smokers, diabetics and people with vascular disease and requires slightly more precision in performing than measuring on the upper arm.
These application errors can lead to measurement errors
There are several causes of incorrectly determined values, i.a. the following:
Too tight or too loose fitting cuff
Cuff was not kept at heart level
The pauses between several measurements were less than 5 minutes
Excitement and stress
muscle tension
Distraction from noise or speech
In addition, changes from one hand to another can cause differences of up to 10 mmHg
Important: If unusual or clearly too high values in case of doubt, consult a doctor.
What is the right blood pressure?
Blood pressure is measured in units of mmHg (millimeters of mercury) and is composed of the upper (systolic) and lower (diastolic) values. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and other experts, values starting from 140/90 are to be classified as elevated. From then on experts speak of hypertension.
So Stiftung Warentest tests blood pressure monitors
At Stiftung Warentest, 15 Sphygmomanometers were tested on 32 volunteers in issue 5/2016 as part of a multi-week study. Stiftung Warentest tested each model six times at each Review subject and came to a total of 5760 values.
For better comparability, the well-tried combination of mercury column, double stethoscope and upper arm cuff was also used.
The following evaluation criteria were checked:
Blood pressure measurement (60%)
susceptibility (10%)
handling (30%)
Data transmission behavior (0%)
The figures in brackets indicate to what extent the results were weighted in the overall assessment.

What can one do against hypertension?
In addition to medication, a change in lifestyle habits can permanently reduce blood pressure. For example, by the following measures:
Use less salt and more spices / herbs
Reduce excess weight through more exercise
Add a lot of fruits and vegetables to your diet and often eat Mediterranean food
Do not smoke any more and drink only a little alcohol: men do not drink more than 20 g of alcohol a day (equivalent to 250 ml of wine, for example), women max. 10 g of alcohol per day (equivalent to 125 ml of wine, for example)
Reduce stress and, if present, compensate for lack of sleep
Risk patients should regularly measure despite successful blood pressure reduction

Conclusion: Blood pressure monitors increase the quality of life quickly and easily
Our review shows that measuring blood pressure does not have to be expensive or cumbersome. Thus, there are no more reasons to renounce this simple security measure. Finally, in addition to heart attack and stroke blockages of the pelvic and leg vessels or damage to the retina can be prevented and the general well-being can be increased by timely treatment to high levels.
