Bodycap's e-Celsius smart health connected pill

At the CES (Consumer Electronic Show), which was held from January 7 to 10 in Las Vegas, a French company called Bodycap presents e-Celsius, a smart health connected pill. This is the capacity of a thermometer that monitors the internal temperature of the body.

An electronic pill inside the body?

They look like conventional capsules (red and white, about 8.9 mm) but are electronic. In fact, inside, there are printed circuits, a temperature sensor and a radio microphone. This capsule sends internal temperature information every 30 seconds of the person. Before ingestion, the pill is manually activated and linked to a monitoring (the receiver). She will communicate with and send the information collected on the person's health in real time. This receiver transmits the information to a computer for processing. The pill can also store up to 1,500 temperature readings. Its storage capacity is necessary so that monitoring applies even when the carrier is not located near the receiver. The capsule, which uses radio frequency, has an autonomy of seven months. At the end of its journey, the capsule is then evacuated by natural means.

What interest ?

It's a prevention tool against post-operative infections. Once swallowed by the patient, the e-Celsius pill will analyze the internal temperature and send a radio signal to the receiver. This makes it possible to continuously monitoring the temperature evolution. This invention is particularly useful in patients undergoing surgery to detect possible infections. The fact that there is a measurement every 30 seconds accelerates treatment if a problem is detected. Namely that in case of infection, the temperature is the first alert. This is particularly interesting for patients recovering since taking these capsules will allow their doctor tomonitoring the state of their health more easily and diagnose faster.

Release date

This new pill is no more difficult to swallow than the capsules you know. Successfully tested on animals, its use on humans should soon be operational. The electronic capsule should be on the market by the end of the year.
