BOTOX & MORE

Do you ever think about botox and do you want to know more about it? Then read today’s article by Annemarie van Rosmalen of the Van Rosmalenkliniek, which also discusses additional ways to tackle wrinkles.

Botox ®

Botulinum Toxin type A is a naturally purified protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum and originally intended as a remedy for squinting (strabismus) and excessive blinking of the eyelid muscle. Botox ® is also used as a medicine for overactive bladder, excessive sweating, teeth grinding and spasms. The fact that we know Botox ® today mainly as a wrinkle-fighting agent is thanks to a Canadian ophthalmologist, Dr. Jean Carruthers. She notices that patients she treats with Botox ® have fewer wrinkles. She published an article in 1992 in the Journal of Dermatologic Surgery and Oncology.

Before Botox ® is injected, the white powder is dissolved in sterile saline. The injection is done with a very fine needle so that the treatment is virtually painless. Studies show that Botox ® can be used simply and safely to treat horizontal wrinkles on the forehead, vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows, crow’s feet along the eyes and small wrinkles on the sides of the nose. By shutting down the underlying facial muscles, the face relaxes and the skin becomes beautifully smooth. Except for a (painful) bruise, there are virtually no side effects. In order not to fundamentally change the facial expression, Botox ® is not injected into the cheeks or around the mouth. Cosmetic doctors use fillers for this.

Botox against frown and forehead wrinkles

One of the most used applications of Botox ® is to combat the frown lines and horizontal forehead lines: The frown lines are the lines or wrinkles above the nose between the eyebrows and are caused by muscle tension between the eyebrows and often cause an angry or stern facial expression. After years of frowning, these lines no longer disappear when you look relaxed. Through Botox ® injections, sometimes in combination with a filler, the frown lines disappear and a natural appearance is preserved. See for example the photo above.

Horizontal forehead wrinkles above the eyebrows can also be treated with Botox ® injections. These wrinkles are mainly caused by strong muscle activity between the eyebrows and the hairline. Botox ® relaxes the muscle so that existing wrinkles fade and new wrinkles are prevented. Depending on the position of the eyebrows and the excess skin of the upper eyelids, it is in some cases better to do an upper eyelid correction first.

Peeling

For optimal results, it is important that the skin is in good condition. Therefore, combine a Botox ® treatment with, for example, a skin-improving and restorative peeling based on glycolic acid, to exfoliate the skin. A peeling provides cell stimulation, reduces pigmentation spots, fine wrinkles, acne scars and large pores. Evens out the complexion and refines the skin structure because the sebum production is back in balance. refines the skin texture.

Cosmeceutical skincare

Beautiful skin naturally starts at home, so switch from ordinary cosmetics to cosmeceutical skincare. These are products with higher concentrations of active substances that act more deeply on the skin layers, such as the SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF. An antioxidant serum that consists of a high (10%) concentration of pure vitamin C, Phloretin and ferulic acid (5%). The product contains no perfume or parabens.

Daily use improves skin quality and neutralizes damage caused by free radicals from UVA/UVB, infrared (IRA) and air pollution. The skin gets an even and radiant color. Skinceuticals Phloretin CF is available in our webshop.
