It was during the “Mixed Talents” organized by Samsung that the two creators of BrainBand met. Their concept is simple, pool their skills to develop a wearable that prevents concussions in contact sports. So if you like a little violent sports, you will love the BrainBand.

Developed by the Australian subsidiary of Samsung, it seemed obvious to take the rugby player, Israel folau, who was not only part of the Australian national rugby team but also of the legendary All Blacks, for BrainBand Ambassador. Currently, around ten prototypes are finalized and it will only take a short time to BrainBand to convince athletes to guard against concussions, which affect a large number of contact sports.
Two talents against concussions
Concussions are unfortunately recurrent injuries in a certain number of contact sports such as boxing, hockey or even rugby. What is problematic in this type of injury is not only its dangerousness, but the absence of symptoms or immediate marks which makes diagnosis very difficult. However, the consequences can be very serious and a severe concussion can even lead to death.
The BrainBand which was designed and designed in partnership by Braden Wilson, an industrial designer and Alan Pearce, a neuro-scientist, will allow us to monitoring player health, but also to detect the slightest concussion in real time, during training and matches. He will therefore be able to avoid a certain number of consequences of concussions, such as: loss of skills and movements, problems with memory, aggression, anxiety, depression and even dementia.
BrainBand design and availability
The BrainBand is worn around the head and is equipped with sensors that follow the player’s brain state at all times. Doctors receive data that allows them to know the number of concussions the player may have received during his career, but especially the number of strokes and possible concussions during a match. In practice, the BrainBand presents on the top a LED series with a precise color code: from yellow to red, these indicate the severity of the blows and allows you to instantly know if the player must be evacuated from the field.
Currently, the BrainBand is not not planned for sale for individuals, however, it has been tested on rugby players and of course on its ambassador: Israel Lofau.
