Candy CAS10: Review, price and technical data sheet
On paper, the Candy CAS10 is far from arousing enthusiasm. This vacuum cleaner has only one suction power, it is completely devoid of additional functions such as a ramp of LEDs on the suction head, and the promised autonomy does not exceed 25 minutes. Suffice to say that this entry-level stick vacuum cleaner leaves with a few lengths of delay against the behemoths of the sector that are the over-equipped Dyson V11 Absolute or Xiaomi Mi Handheld Vacuum Cleaner. However, this simplicity allows the CAS10 to be sold at a contained price since it can be easily found for less than € 85.
It is not to insult Candy to say that the unpacking of the CAS10 has excited us much less than that of the Dyson V10; an unflattering first impression, confirmed by rather specific design choices. The main body combines angles, edges, curves and rounded in gray and turquoise tones, all creating a fairly unhealthy whole. Nevertheless, the manufacturer seems to have chosen quality plastics and the CAS10 seems ready to face all the vagaries of everyday life without flinching.
The main body which groups together the engine block, the filtration system and the waste bin weighs 1.39 kg. And since we are in the presence of a stick-type stick vacuum cleaner, everything is located near the user’s wrist; we can therefore orient it effortlessly in all directions, for vacuuming cobwebs on the ceiling, for example. We would have liked to take advantage of this particular architecture to also vacuum on the shelves (often dusty), but Candy does not provide a soft mini-brush in the box, an accessory suitable for this use. The user only benefits from a short nozzle and a long nozzle – damage.
Note that the CAS10 in its floor cleaning configuration (therefore with the tube and the suction head) weighs 2.12 kg, which makes it one of the lightest stick vacuums in our comparison. It does not risk weighing on the arm, even if the cleaning session drags on. To top it off, the suction head is well articulated, very mobile, and, during our tests, we never had to deplore any departure from the track, even during very tight turns.
As we have pointed out, the CAS10 does not bother with frills since only one suction power is offered: all of the controls therefore boil down to a single trigger. As with Dyson stick vacuums, pressure must be maintained on the latter for suction to continue. Thus autonomy is artificially extended since there is no need to press a button to stop the operation of the device when you want to move a piece of furniture, or put it back in its place.
However, Candy takes over a good idea present on the Hoover H-Free, a piece of plastic that blocks the trigger in the operating position, with a simple movement of the index finger. It is thus possible to choose a continuous or alternative operating mode very simply.
Due to its “stick” configuration, the CAS10 is not designed to stand on its own. A wall base, to be fixed using the screws and plugs provided, is required to store it in an upright position, the one that occupies the least space. But while this type of base can sometimes serve as a charging station (like that of the Rowenta Air Force Flex 560 Animal), Candy only offers a simple storage support, completely devoid of electrical connector. To recharge the CAS10 after placing it on its base, it will therefore be necessary to connect it manually to the transformer – we have known more practical.
Behind this appearance of ugly duckling, however, hides a swan of aspiration, because the CAS10 is formidably effective.
Let’s face it, we didn’t expect much from CAS10 on long pile carpets. And yet, in 30 seconds, it sucks 68% of the rice that we have spread on this surface, which already is a very good result. He cannot remove all the grains from the fibers, but only 8% remains after 2 minutes of cleaning, which makes the CAS10 one of the most efficient models on this very difficult surface. For comparison, the most efficient (the Kobold VB100) leaves only 1% of the detritus on the long pile carpet after 2 minutes of vacuuming.
On fine carpets, the results are just as excellent since 99% of the rice is harvested in 30 seconds and 100% in one minute. The motorized brush of the CAS10 is also largely responsible for these very good performance since it does not reject the litter behind it, unlike many brushes from other vacuum cleaners. So it only takes one pass to vacuum all the waste.
Finally, on hard ground, this brush always shows the same efficiency and, thanks to it, the CAS10 picks up 99% of the rice in 30 seconds.
Maintenance of the Candy CAS10 should not be a problem. The bin is emptied without getting dirty thanks to a button that triggers the opening of the bottom of the waste bin. A good point because this is not always the case, especially on devices that require handling a plastic tongue like the Tornado TOP5-21TG.
The maintenance of the motorized head brush is also carried out without too much difficulty. It is very easily removed by sliding a plastic part, held in place by a spring system: there is therefore no risk of losing it during the operation. Replacing the brush is no more complicated than removing it.
The main filters can be easily accessed by removing the litter bin using a button located under the engine block. So you can clean them in the blink of an eye. The HEPA filter is located on the back of the unit, and again, removing it is no more difficult than cleaning it. At the end of the operation, it is easily replaced in its housing.
At the end of our Review which consists in sucking 20 g of cocoa powder with the vacuum cleaner, there is dirt everywhere in the device. The prefilters are heavily loaded and very regular maintenance is required to maintain optimal suction performance. Fortunately, the HEPA filter that prevents the finest particles from being released outside is immaculate; we have weighed this ultimate barrier and it appears that the weight is exactly the same to the nearest thousandth of a gram. This means that the dust remains confined in the vacuum cleaner and is not released into the room during cleaning sessions.
Candy announces 25 minutes of autonomy on the box and on the CAS10, and it has run out of breath after 23 min 30 s. We have known more enduring; the Electrolux Pure Q9, for example, sucks almost 70 minutes continuously.
Fortunately, the batteries are fully charged in 2 h 3 min, which is very short. For comparison, the Philips PowerPro Aqua FC6409 / 01 takes 5 hours for the same exercise.
On the other hand, even if the battery is removed by pressing a button placed under the device, it is impossible to recharge it without it being inserted in the stick vacuum cleaner. Indeed, Candy “forgot” to equip it with a female plug to connect the transformer. It is therefore very difficult to extend the autonomy by preparing charged batteries to replace the exhausted one.
Stick vacuums are not inconspicuous devices, and the CAS10 is no exception. More annoying, it turns out to be a bit noisier than the average since our sound level meter indicates 76 dB (A). In general, the noise level of the other stick vacuums in our comparison is around 72 or 73 dB (A) at full power.
Strong points
Excellent suction performance on all surfaces.
Perfect filtration.
Continuous or alternative suction, as desired.
Lightweight.
Weak points
No soft brush provided.
Wall socket designed for storage only (no recharging).
Noisier than the average of other stick vacuums.
Too fair autonomy.
Surprisingly, the Candy CAS10 certainly is. Despite limited technical specifications and an unattractive dress, he is particularly good at sucking on all surfaces, and that is the main thing. In addition, it benefits from flawless filtration and we greatly appreciate the possibility of choosing between continuous or alternative suction very simply. It is however not free from any defect, first among which is a slightly light accessorization (no soft brush), insufficient autonomy, or a poorly contained sound level. But it is nonetheless one of the stick vacuum cleaners with the best performance / price ratio in our comparison.
