[CES 2015] Vigipen, the smart health connected syringe for diabetics

The Swiss brand Vigilant has designed a smart health connected syringe for diabetics. The goal : make their lives easier.The number of diabetics has increased over the years. Someone affected will have to monitoring themselves all their lives by measuring the blood sugar level and then note the results in a notebook. The purpose of Vigilant's smart health connected syringe is to make the notebook disappear.Vigilant had already tried the concept with Bee which involved manual actions. Vigipen is completely automated.

How it works

 Vigipen connects to smartphone in Bluetooth. He's going to take the blood sugar measurement, and inject the insulin. It’s on your cell phone that you will have all the collected data through the syringe. From it, you can track your results or show them to your loved ones or doctors. Your smartphone becomes your self-monitoring log.

Advantages

 "A diabetic is often a little cheater: before going to see his doctor, he fills his self-monitoring book with a little bit of phony data" says Laurent Nicolas, Vigilant Marketing Director. Vigipen would therefore, in addition to simplifying their lives, improve the safety of patients who would be encouraged to take their rates correctly.This is particularly valid for children, for whom taking it may be easier. As the data is sent directly, it is more reliable for parents and doctors.Another advantage, almost everyone has their smartphone daily with them. Now everything is on it, no need to take your notebook wherever you go.

 The Vigipen has another interest, it prevents the patient from moving through a simple system. You can share data with your loved ones, your doctors and even on specialized forums. Practical for elderly people who no longer have all their mobility.

Vigilant has not yet announced a release date or a final price. But the latter would revolve around € 200.
