[CES 2020] Samsung SmartThings wants to add cars to its app

[ad_1]

The border between smart health connected vehicles and the smart health home tends to be blurred and the connections between the two worlds are becoming more and more numerous. Samsung has understood this. SmartThings, its arm in the Internet of Things, announced at CES 2020 to have come closer to the company Smartcar. The goal: to allow users to manage their car from the SmartThings application, like a smart health smart health connected object.

Several brands of cars

This is not so much of a surprise. SmartThings had already entered into a partnership with BMW which enabled drivers of German sedans with a SmartThings hub to receive notifications directly on their dashboard. The French manufacturer Renault has also decided to take a step in this direction by approaching Otodo to make the vehicle an extension of the health home.

The special feature of Smartcar is that it allows the integration "of most new cars with United States"with a single API. SmartThings can therefore do this integration work only once and not for each automobile brand. The partners do not however specify which models are concerned. They only indicate that they want to finish the integration and offer these new functionalities in the United States later this year.

Manage your vehicle from health home

SmartThings, which is compatible with more than 5,000 objects (speakers, cameras, lamps, doorbells, etc.) is already used in more than 10 million households and has more than 50 million active users. The application will therefore add vehicles to smart health connected objects that are part of its ecosystem. SmartThings users will be able to locate their vehicle, check the battery life (if it is electric) or even unlock it from this application.

It will also be possible to create different scenarios. In particular, users will be able to define a perimeter around the health home from which the house thermostats adjust to a certain temperature. It will also be possible to define different modes: for example, a night mode which lowers the thermostats in the house, locks the vehicle and turns off the living room lights with a single click. Finally, the driver can request to receive notifications concerning his vehicle (such as the battery charge) directly on this application.
