Help screen for widespread but still underdiagnosed illnesses. This is the ambition of Withings' new smart health connected watch, called ScanWatch, which will be presented at the CES in Las Vegas from January 7 to 10. To do this, the product, which has already won three Innovation Awards, has a slew of medical measurement sensors. The French company is promoting, among other things, its electrocardiogram (ECG) functionality, for the detection of atrial fibrillation, as well as oximetry, for sleep apnea. Pathologies which respectively affect 300,000 and 1.5 million French people… and which lead to significant risks of stroke.

WORTHY HOSPITAL EXAMS

ScanWatch has a hybrid design, with both a needle dial and a screen for displaying health data "generally reserved for hospitals". Concretely, electrodes are positioned on the bezel and on the back of the watch to measure the heart rate and a SpO2 sensor makes it possible to measure the oxygen saturation in the blood. A feat, according to Withings, which ensures that his watch is, at this time, "the only one able to detect atrial fibrillation and sleep apnea". And, thus, avoid the development of cardiovascular diseases – which would be, today, the leading cause of death for all age groups, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Number of apnea episodes, oxygen saturation, frequency as well as number of cardiac events… Each morning, upon waking, the user benefits from a complete report to find in the companion mobile application Health Mate, available free on Android and iOS, on which he can also set goals. Enough to ensure his good health in a few seconds, when said pathologies turn out to be silent for one in three patients. If there is any doubt, the user can share his data with his doctor, who sees his long-term follow-up improved. Withings has applied for CE Medical certification.

"This product demonstrates Withings' ambition to transform the relationship with health through technology. ScanWatch makes revolutionary innovations available to as many people as possible to detect sleep apnea and cardiac arrhythmias, widespread and yet under-developed conditions. diagnosed (it is estimated, for example, that about 8 in 10 freedivers have not been diagnosed, N.D.L.R.). Worn day and night, ScanWatch offers timely screening while allowing information to be shared with your doctor ", detailed Mathieu Letombe, President and CEO of Withings, also pointing out the elegance of the product, made of stainless steel and with sapphire crystal. Available in white or black, the smart health connected watch will be sold at 249.95 euros in the second quarter of 2020.
