CES: Casio WSD-F10 – the most robust outdoor watch with Android Wear

Casio presented its first smartwatch at CES. The Smart Outdoor Watch WSD-F10 is waterproof up to a depth of 50 meters and offers an acceleration sensor, barometer and compass. Android Wear is used as the operating system.

Most current smartwatches with Android Wear either look like plastic gadgets – or turn you on "right watch". With the WSD-F10, Casio has now introduced a computer watch for outdoor freaks. With its coarse, robust design, the 15.7 millimeter thick smartwatch makes no secret of the fact that it prefers canyoning than going to a café.

According to Casio, the WSD-F10 is waterproof up to a depth of 50 meters. Here too, the mandatory warning: Fast arm movements can cause higher pressures on the water surface than in 50 meters of water. To DIN 8310 the watch is suitable for showering etc., but not for frequent swimming.

The display of the watch is 1.32 inches tall and has a resolution of 320 × 300 pixels. As you can see from the crooked resolution, it has the same “plates” as the Moto 360 or the Fossil Q Founder. However, the LCD screen of the Casio watch has two levels: In addition to the color display, there is a monochrome level that is supposed to extend the battery life from a good day to a month – perfect for longer hiking trips. In this mode, however, the range of functions is largely reduced to that of an ordinary, "stupid" watch.

In smart mode, on the other hand, the color display not only shows the time, but also height above sea level, air pressure, tides, sunrise and sunset times, cardinal direction and activity of the wearer. Casio has developed various dials for the display, which the manufacturer appropriately calls “tools”.

The smartwatch is available in orange, red, army green and black. There are no details about prices and market launch for Germany yet. In the U.S., the watch is expected to be available in early April and will cost approximately $ 500.
