CES: Huawei shows watch for women, MediaPad M2 10 & Mate 8
Huawei showed a smartphone, a watch and a tablet at CES. However, the mobile phone is already known and the smartwatch is only a modification of the already known watch. Only the tablet is new. At least a bit.
Mate 8 instead of P9
The hopes were high – especially a possible Huawei P9 was eagerly awaited. The bottom line is that the Huawei press conference should have been a disappointment for most viewers. Instead of the P9, the Chinese have just warmed up the Mate 8, which was presented at the end of November.
The phablet has a 6.0-inch display with full HD resolution, a Kirin 950 SoC, a fingerprint reader on the back and two cameras with 16 and 8 megapixels. After all, there was also price and date: The device should be available in Germany in the colors Moonlight Silver and Space Gray from the end of January. The recommended retail price is 599 euros.
Watch also for women
While women are often wrongly said to be less interested in technology, current smartwatches actually have a problem for women: most watches are simply too fat for delicate wrists. Huawei wants to counteract this and presented two versions of the watch for women at CES.
The two models Watch Jewel and Watch Elegant, created in collaboration with Swarovski, are held in rose gold and have different amounts of bling bling depending on the model. However, under the hood is the same technology as in the other watch models. The two watches addressed to the ladies and with up to 68 stones set to start in March 2016, Huawei has not yet revealed prices.
MediaPad M2 10.0
And also the MediaPad M2 is not a really new innovation at all, just the big brother of the MediaPad M2 8.0 already presented in July. As with the smaller version, there is a Kirin 930 SoC under the hood, plus a 10.1-inch display with Full HD resolution.
There is also the 10 inch version (why is it actually called 10.0 if the display measures 10.1 inches according to the data sheet?) In two different versions. The premium version comes with a stylus, LTE, 64 GB of memory and 3 GB of RAM, but also costs an impressive 499 euros. The market launch is planned for the end of January.
Later there will also be a Classic version, which is satisfied with WLAN and also brings "only" 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of integrated memory. After all, the capacity can be expanded by up to 128 GB via a microSD card.
What do you say about Huawei's appearance at CES – are you disappointed? Or are your expectations for the fair in Las Vegas not too high anyway?
