check your mailbox without going out!
The creator of Smart Alert for Mail (SAM) had a problem that no one else could solve: knowing when his mail arrived.
Suddenly, he created Smart Alert for Mail (SAM), a single-use gadget, which you will already have understood by reading these first lines.
Smart Alert for Mail (SAM) is made up of two parts. A transmitter that fits into your mailbox and a receiver that is in your health home. The transmitter attaches to the inside of your mailbox using tape and Velcro (a small antenna wire winds around the slot in the door).
The receiver is installed inside your health home, near a power outlet. The transmitter communicates via the frequency band 433.92 MHz; which gives it a range of 90 meters in the open air and without obstruction.
In more detail, the transmitter is a simple motion sensor and, when the mailbox is open, it alerts the receiver. The receiver then emits a chime and changes the large mail icon on the front of the device from green to blue. You can choose from more than a dozen chimes; including the theme song The Addams Family by pressing a button on the side of the receiver.
You can also choose the volume, including mute mode. If you don't like any of these options, you can use the USB port or the SD card slot on the other side of the receiver to use the music of your choice.
Optionally, you can connect SAM to your smartphone; via Wi-Fi and the dedicated SAM app. This will also allow you to receive alerts on your phone when the mail arrives. The app will also keep a daily log. Unfortunately, there is no interaction with other smart health connected objects in your health home automation installation. Therefore, you cannot flash your Philips Hue bulbs or let Alexa announce the arrival of your mail.
