Notes:

The main chrysanthemum flowers used in Chinese medicine are yellow and white. There is a difference between these two Ju Hua:

– Yellow (黄 菊花) are considered more effective to disperse wind-heat, to drain the heat and to detoxify.

– White (白 菊花), sweeter, are best to harmonize the liver and brighten eyes. Once dry, the petals become yellowish.

These white and yellow Ju Hua there are different varieties, the best known are:

– Gong Ju (贡菊) that grows in the Yellow Mountains (Huangshan) in the province of Anhui (very popular because it grows in the hills, breathe the fresh air and the variety was for the emperor.)

– Chu Ju (滁 菊) of Anhui province that is quite “compact” compared to his cousin Bo Ju.

– Bo Ju (亳 菊) Anhui who has petals that detach easily.

– Hang Ju (杭菊) of Zhejiang province and especially in the Hangzhou region, often white Hang Bai Ju (Hang Bai Jú – 杭白菊)

Chrysanthemum flowers not open

One can also add Tai Ju (胎 菊) are chrysanthemum flowers that have partially hatched. They are young, well preserved thus keeping all their flavor and properties.

Finally, I will conclude with Ye Ju Hua (野 菊花) which is the wild Ju Hua. This is more effective than Ju Hua regarding hypertension and infections, abscesses. Indeed, its action to disperse the heat and eliminate the toxicity is stronger.

Unlike Ju Hua, Ye Ju Hua is not recommended for pregnant women.
