Choose an LED strip for the kitchen?

Since almost all the lighting has gone to LEDs, it is possible to use and abuse it: LEDs consume little energy (10 times less than our old incandescent bulbs), and benefit from huge lifespan. If in the living room we generally take the opportunity to create bright atmospheres, using table lamps for example, to create subdued atmospheres, or even colored, other places take the opportunity to obtain quality lighting for working in better conditions. Think of the workshop, for example, but also the kitchen, where handling sharp utensils or boiling dishes requires safety, and therefore adequate lighting.

The Led strip, economical and ergonomic

The led strip is a tube lamp which emits a frank light, ensuring an optimal visual comfort to work in safety. Several years ago, we saw how to adapt a traditional neon fixture to insert a led neon tube, which is still in place after 8 years, which proves the lifespan of LEDs. Today, it is no longer necessary to tinker: the led strips are generally delivered ready to use and pre-wired. The light source is directly integrated into the luminaire. Then just connect the strip to the power supply, and the lighting is functional.

More affordable, with better light output, led strips are truly an economical option that meet many needs. Many models are also waterproof: perfect for damp rooms, such as the bathroom, kitchen, but also DIY workshops, or other outbuildings.

The led strip can go from 30cm to 1.5m, with a light power ranging from 900 to more than 10,000 lumens, enough to meet most needs.

If a led bulb allows to illuminate a single point, the led strip has the advantage of illuminating more homogeneously thanks to its length and its diffusion capacity, thus eliminating the gray areas.

The Led strip in the kitchen

Often, the led strip can remind us of our old neon lights, with an austere and unattractive look. This style can however be perfectly integrated into an industrial and contemporary style arrangement, by fixing it to the ceiling or even to the wall.

If really this is not a style that we want to highlight, there are slim and discreet led strips, which can be integrated under the furniture. Almost invisible, they allow the work surface to be perfectly lit so that you can cook in good conditions.

How to choose your led strip

The choice of a led strip for the kitchen will of course depend on the space available, and the style you want to give to your kitchen. Other criteria must be taken into account such as the color index (CRI), which offers a value between 0 and 100. We will therefore try to get closer to the index 100, in order to obtain a faithful lighting in the reconstruction colors, which do not distort the color of food, or that of furniture or decoration.

We will also opt for a waterproof model, for more safety in the kitchen (we will think of water splashes, but also the steam from the oven, dishwasher, auto cooker and company)

Note that there are remote control strips, which can be practical to turn everything on with one click. At worst, it will always be possible to connect them to a micro module compatible with the health home automation system in place, or simply with one of the voice assistants on the market, if you want to add a little fun and control your lighting by voice. After all, Google and Amazon are already very present in the kitchens to guide us in our recipes
