com Dietrich DOP7220X: Review, price and specification – Built-in oven

It is the pulsed heat that works in the built-in oven com Dietrich DOP7220X; at the bottom of the 73 l cavity, an annular resistor surrounds a fan charged to distribute the hot air homogeneously. Unsophisticated, it ignores the touch screen, the temperature sensor or the steam features. This basic but solid technical sheet helps contain costs. Launched at 699 €, the built-in oven com Dietrich DOP7220X is now easily under the symbolic bar of 500 €.

The aesthetic side of a device is always a very subjective point, but it is clear that the built-in oven com Dietrich DOP7220X does not lack character. All glass and aluminum, the door has the soft closure and is adorned with a beautiful brushed stainless steel handle, engraved with the name of the manufacturer.

There is also the small copper diamond already seen on the DPI7698GS cooktop from the same manufacturer. Purely decorative and totally futile, it contributes to give a well finished look to this model.

The unique and voluminous knob brings a touch of originality to the set, since it is slightly eccentric to the right of the control panel. Just to the left of it, the electronic white segment display informs the user of the time, temperature or cooking time, according to the programmed parameters.

This operation is not really difficult. First of all, the cooking mode is selected thanks to the famous knob, referring to the pictograms placed on the perimeter of the latter. If the icons speak for the basic functions (natural convection, pulsed heat …). Those that symbolize the least used functions (variable grill, pulsed grill …) are more sibylline.

And unfortunately, the display does not provide help at this time since only a temperature is displayed, but no other indication relating, for example, to the heating elements used. Only the pyrolysis or express pyrolysis functions have their name displayed in full.

The temperature setting is much easier. After touching the thermometer, use the "plus" and "minus" buttons below the screen to increase or decrease the desired temperature by 5 ° C: good point because these electronic settings are much more accurate than those allowed by a mechanical knob, like the one found on the Electrolux EOA3404AOX PlusSteam. The different cooking modes offer a variety of temperature ranges, but the DOP7220X can be considered to be from 30 ° C to 275 ° C.

Setting a cooking time (to the minute) follows the same process. We press the button with a clock, then we set the preparation time. A second press on the icon starts the programming of one hour of end of cooking. With a little practice, we manage everything easily.

Moreover, it is better to master the manual mode, because this model does not benefit from any cooking assistant. Beginning cooks will not be able to rest on the DOP7220X to learn how to cook Orloff veal or roast veal.

Like many built-in ovens, the DOP7220X starts cooking without the need to press any "start" keys. We like it or not, but this feature makes it possible not to have to hurry during programming, which is appreciable.

Another reason for dissatisfaction, none of the five stages of charging is seen equipped with telescopic rails, this accessory so practical to handle a heavy or imposing dish. Too bad, because the cavity of 73 l is quite able to accommodate bulky food such as a capon or a turkey without these birds feel cramped in the least.

Let's finish with the accessories: com Dietrich provides two grills and a broiler pan but no rotisserie.

The programming possibilities of the com Dietrich DOP7220X are reduced to the minimum.

Indeed, the cooking modes are only nine to tighten around the wheel and all are not essential: pulsed heat (the annular resistance and the fan are used together), combined heat (all the heating elements and the fan turns ), natural convection (the hearth and vault resistances work together, but the cavity bottom fan and resistance are inactive), eco mode, pulsed grill (the vault and ventilator work together), variable grill (only arch resistance heats and four power levels predicted), keeping warm, defrosting and bread (sole resistance and blower work together, convenient for drying pie or quiche bottoms). The other two positions of the dial are used to start automatic cleaning by pyrolysis or express pyrolysis (one hour only).

As for the cooking assistant, it was deemed unnecessary by com Dietrich who did not equip the DOP7220X.

These different features will ensure daily use, even that of a confirmed chef. Nevertheless, plenty of good does not harm and we would have appreciated a little variety for, for example, to operate sole resistance alone, without ventilation.

The com Dietrich DOP7220X built-in oven shows excellent cooking performance.

It is very effective to increase the temperature inside the muffle from 25 ° C to 185 ° C, since in static heat mode it takes only 5 min 20 s to complete this exercise. It is a little slower in pulsed heat mode since it takes 15 seconds more, but in either case, it ranks among the fastest kilns in this event.

However, once the desired temperature is reached, the DOP7220X takes a little time to stabilize it. However, once this phase has passed, the heat in the enclosure no longer varies, as shown by the almost straight curves of our graphs. This model is therefore very suitable for successful cooking the most delicate as blown; it avoids the overcooking and undercooking phases that are sometimes encountered.

This very good performance is as true in static heat mode as in pulsed heat mode. Even the temperature does not seem to affect this ability, and this model behaves perfectly at 200 ° C as at 250 ° C.

Once is not custom, the eco mode is quite usable; not only does the temperature stability prove quite acceptable, but, in addition, it consumes less energy than conventional modes. Only preheating is a little longer (8:50).

Finally, last point, the heat is homogeneous throughout the muffle as evidenced by the curves of the graphs very close to each other and which symbolize the temperatures found in various places. In fact, this means that it will not be necessary to turn the dish of cannelloni family to avoid it being overcooked in some places and not enough to others.

To evaluate the energy requirements of the com Dietrich DOP7220X, we measured its power consumption during a 45-minute Review of increasing the temperature from 25 ° C to 200 ° C and then maintaining it. To reach the end of this exercise, he consumed 0.81 kWh in pulsed heat. It's a little more than the average of other ovens in our comparison without detonating the meters. These needs are much more limited in static heat mode since it needs this time only 0.70 kWh.

The eco mode is aptly named. Admittedly, the gain is quite minimal to reach the end of the year (0.66 kWh), but the electricity saving is indeed at the rendezvous.

When in the preheating mode with the fan running at this maximum, the noise level of the DOP7220X still reaches 44 dB (A). Admittedly, this is not enough to cover a conversation held at a normal level (60 dB (A)), but it may still be heard over time.

If we had to compare the com Dietrich DOP7220X built-in oven, it would be a Dodge Viper. Raced, pleasant to handle, powerful, fast … but without help to the user! Indeed, it completely ignores the cooking assistant. We also regret the lack of telescopic rails and we would have appreciated that the cooking begins only after decision of the user. But these few faults quickly disappear in the face of almost perfect stability and temperature homogeneity. Surely one of the best performance / price ratio of our comparison!
