Unboxing of the Kiwip Watch

The Kiwip Watch is contained in a round cardboard box, covered with a clear plastic lid. At the front of the box, can read the brand and the slogan. There is also the target of the product in English: "Kid Edition".

At the back of the box, the different product features appear in the form icon in the manner of an application visual that we could find on smartphone.

On the left side of the box is a description of the contents of the box. She therefore includes a USB cable, a charger, a user manual and a screwdriver. Various information concerning the product is also indicated. We can, for example, learn that the watch only connects to secure servers.

The watch is inserted into a recess, in the middle of a plastic support used to cover the accessories. A protective film is present on the watch. His bracelet is held around a foam support.

The accessories are contained in another foam support. Side spaces are designed to store equipment. We can see a middle slot, to insert the plastic top with the watch.

The product has several accessories : a mains plug (a bit difficult to remove from the support) and a USB cable to attach to the outlet of the sector to recharge the watch. The leaflet is the only tool to be placed under the foam, at the bottom of the box. It is visible after removing this part.

A screwdriver is also included in the box, to allow the user to change his SIM card, which is nano format.

The instructions for use are organized in the form of small folding pages. She offers about twenty pages, all of which are devoted to a feature or an installation process. They are illustrated to allow the user to easily understand the installation steps and operation of the device.

Design and ergonomics of the Kiwip Watch

The Kiwip Watch has a rather fun design, it is suitable for its young audience. It remains all the same quality for a watch for children.

The branches of the watch rest on a hinge principle, to make the two parts removable. The fixing system looks good. When one of the two parties reaches the maximum threshold of its extension, it returns to the original location.

Both branches cling by an intuitive fixing system. Two tips present on the end of the right branch are fixed on the small spacings provided for this purpose, on the second branch. However, we will go back to the aesthetic aspect of these sites.

Connections level, the watch is recharged thanks to a USB charger with a magnetic end. It attaches to the device with a pin system on the back of the dial.

Only two buttons appear on the side of the device: the first, at the top, is used to access the menu and trigger the SOS mode; while the bottom one is used to return to the main dial and end the calls. The user should not be lost in the use of the watch, which is a breeze unlike the application. Between the two operating buttons, you can see a microphone used mainly for voice recognition during calls.

To extend the battery life, be sure to use the energy saving mode.

Installing the Kiwip Watch

The user does not have much to do to enjoy the smart health connected watch. To be specified: the SIM card provided is already inserted in the relevant slot. The only approach to follow is the pairing with the application which must be downloaded via the store of your mobile OS.

After installation, to turn on the watch, simply press the lower button located on the right edge of the dial. You will then need to scan a QR code displayed on the watch. To display it, you have to sweep the screen of the Kiwip Watch up.

Using the Kiwip Watch

The Kiwip Watch is used with an eponymous application. PTo have access to the time, temperature, network signal and battery level, the main touch screen is also searchable.

To access the simplified functions of the watch, simply swipe the screen to the right or left. After launching the application, be sure to allow access to the Kiwip Watch for various functions: contacts, calls, voice chat …

While staying pressed on the main screen, it is possible to change the wallpaper as it sees fit. 28 different designs are available.

With this wireless device, the child is normally able to receive calls from relatives, who are administrators of an account on the phone application. The watch actually works just like a phone : the child can register contacts (up to 50) and make and receive calls. It is useful that contacts should always be validated by parents.

It therefore requires a subscription set at € 9.99 per month via a partnership with Bouygues. It is also possible to choose another operator, but choosing the special package will bring the price of the watch to € 99, an extremely attractive price for a watch of this quality. In addition, the basic package allows calling elsewhere than in France (in near Europe for example).

During our first Review, network problems with the remote server have occurred. Despite our attempts, we were unable to operate the call function through the application.

We could however call the watch without going through the application. Just make an ordinary call with your smartphone. To contact your child, one of the parents must call the number corresponding to the SIM card of the watch.

Since then, we have been able to meet the creators of the watch, who have solved the problem. Calls through the app are launched instantly and without problems. We had received a defective model.

During a call, the watch changes during the call: the child can choose to answer or not. Just press the lower right button to deny it or tap the red icon on the screen. The watch takes into account the missed calls and indicates the transmitter.

To pick up the child must slide the green icon from left to right of the touch screen. The voice is detected using a microphone on the deviceit is located between the two interaction buttons.

The Kiwip Watch allows the child to send and receive voice messages from his contact book, as well as receiving text messages from the watch app. Moreover, the Best Friend function, several children can synchronize their watch to also send voice messages, like a walkie-talkie.

Application of the Kiwip Watch

Aesthetically, the application is rather traditional. The application offers many more features than those on the dial.

Once smart health connected to his associated account, the user will see the application automatically switch to geolocation to detect the watch. It allows parents to know where their children are. For more details on the location, you can simply tap the target icon. It will take you to a Google Maps telling you in real time the location of your child.

The interface of the application is very intuitive, we feel that a real job has been done so that even the children find themselves there. On this screen, you can view the battery level of your device as well as its charge status, if you do not have it nearby.

To call the watch, just press the logo that represents it on the map that appears in the menu. The application also allows you to add contacts and send voice and text messages.

We were able to Review the alarm that allows children to wake up to go to class. TheAlarm is not only sound: when the watch is worn by a person, it also transmits vibrations. he It is of course possible to set the time and day when the alarm should sound.

To improve the ability and concentration of children in class, Kiwip has found a solution: it is class mode. By activating this mode remotely through the app, parents will be sure that their offspring learn without distraction. Indeed, when engaged, this mode restricts the use of the watch. The Kiwip Watch will only show the time on the interface present on the dial. After the end of class times, the child can still consult his watch for other features.

The app also teaches children how to spend themselves via the "physical tracking" section. Statistics on his physical activity will be recorded throughout the day. Once the child has had his or her workout, you will be able to access the statistics via the topic graph. It results from a quantity / periodicity ratio. The latter is calculated in days, for about a week. Thus, you can see if he practices regular physical activity.

Parents can define a safety zone that the child should not cross. It is used in a very simple way, you have to set the input and output area by typing an address, on a variant of Maps, taking inspiration from its interface for the route. There is even a Street View feature. Convenient to make sure your child does not get lost on the way to school.

You can draw by hand the path you want your child to take. If it deviates, a notification will be sent to you. It is important to mention that the steps for registering the security zone do not appear in the Quick User Guide. No information is specified about it.

Kiwip Watch faces competition

Many watches stand out as the Q90 which offers, for less than 20 euros, a GPS, an alarm clock, a pedometer, and a monitoring (Babyphone type). Like the Kiwip Watch, it can be used to call if you add a Micro SIM card on the back, the Nanos are not compatible. Only people identified on the phone can call. Unknown calls not being taken into account by the smart health connected watch. Apart from its features, hard to find information on this watch: caution. This is where the Kiwip Watch stands out, because it offers a storing data on a secure French server, perfect to reassure parents

Both watches focus on the safety and comfort of parents. The Q90 offers an electronic fence system through the app: a message is sent to parents if a designated area has been exceeded. This could avoid parents' fear of running away from their children. The application allows to know where the child was located in thirty days, with a principle of data storage. They are saved on a remote server. The audio messages can be played on the watch.

Among the competitors, we can mention the Filip, which offers a 48 hours autonomy when the watch is put to sleep. With this smart health connected watch, the child can call his parents or friends for almost an hour. Parents may request additional features following the purchase of the product: they can get a subscription of $ 10 a month. It will geolocate the child permanently and communicate in unlimited. Note that the watch is only available in the United States and that phone compatibility may be compromised.
