Corsair acquires high-end game controller manufacturer Scuf Gaming

Known for its high-end joysticks designed for e-sports, the American manufacturer Scuf Gaming is bought by his compatriot Corsair, already firmly established in the world of PC gaming peripherals.

Created in 2011, the company Scuf Gaming has made a name for itself by customizing the official joysticks of different manufacturers: adding paddles on the back, modifying sticks and directional crosses, triggers, buttons…

Towards a better distribution of Scuf Gaming products

With this acquisition (which must be finalized by the end of December 2019 for an unspecified amount), Corsair adds a string to its bow, it which did not offer joysticks until now. This will also allow it to better establish itself in the world of e-sport (Scuf being an Activision partner for Call of duty, but also from the NBA 2K League and eMLS). At the same time, it expands its console universe.

For its part, Scuf Gaming currently maintains its own entity, its head office and its various branches. On the other hand, it will be able to count on the distribution network and the marketing force of Corsair, which is much better installed around the world. What potentially promote the brand beyond the American borders.

PC manufacturers turn to consoles and e-sports

This takeover is reminiscent of Astro Gaming by Logitech in 2017, the latter being precisely one of Corsair's biggest competitors. A simple and quick way to set up in the console universe.

It also shows the rise of e-sport and high-end gaming peripherals in particular. If, on the gamer side, not everyone is ready to spend more than € 100 on a joystick, the manufacturers, for their part, believe in it and no doubt see it as an important growth driver.
