Crucial P2: mid-range M.2 SSDs at low prices

[ad_1]

Over the months, it cannot be said that Crucial has attacked the M.2 PCIe SSD market very aggressively. The brand is thus satisfied with its P1 series comprising two references (500 GB and 1 TB) and using QLC memory. A mid-range model that offers a correct service.

The firm comes back with a P2 series available for the time in 250 GB and 500 GB versions. If the manufacturer does not yet communicate on the nature of the chips used, the various shops referencing the series ensure that it is again from QLC memory. The theoretical speeds are very close to those of the P1 series with 2.3 GB / s in reading and 940 MB / s in writing for the 500 GB version. The 250 GB version will only reach 2.1 GB / s in reading, but is strangely faster than the 500 GB version in writing (1.15 GB / s). This leaves us questionable: would Crucial use TLC memory on the 250 GB version? We will be sure to check this when we can Review the series in the laboratory.

Obviously, an SLC cache system can speed up writing jobs – in an unspecified proportion. The endurance in writing is rather correct with 150 TB guaranteed whatever the capacity selected. The warranty against breakdowns is five years (whichever comes first).

The Crucial P2 are now on sale. It takes € 71 for the 500 GB version and € 60 for the 250 GB version on the Crucial site, and € 101 and € 76 respectively in classic stores. Suffice to say that the smallest capacity has little interest at this price. For the record, the 500 GB Crucial P1 was sold for € 115 when it was released. It is now available from € 75 on promotion on the Crucial site or from € 83 in traditional shops.
