Derogatory travel certificate: optimize the use of paper during printing

To save paper, it is possible to print several derogatory travel certificates on a single sheet by reducing their size. Here's how …
Since Tuesday March 17, a derogatory displacement certificate is compulsory to circulate (and a new version which requires to indicate the time of exit is available since 24/03). If it is possible to write the document by hand, it is much easier to print it. But in time of confinement, when the supply of paper can be complicated, and by ecological measure, it can be practical to print several certificates on the same sheet.
The trick
If printing a document of several pages in thumbnails spread over one sheet is fairly simple to implement, printing several times the same document on a sheet is less easy. However, there is a solution to artificially duplicate the document from your software's printer driver. The trick is to enter the pages to print by typing 1,1,1,1,1 … or 1; 1; 1; 1; 1 … depending on the number of pages to create and the printer drivers used. Then, in the options, just choose 2,4,6 … in the part Pages per sheet.
Unfortunately, this trick only seems to work with Windows and some software. So, if you open the PDF document in your Chrome, Firefox or Edge browser, chances are that this tip is not satisfactory and that your attempt to print multiple results in printing a thumbnail of the PDF at the top left of your sheet. Not really the expected effect so …
In this case, whether you are on macOS or Windows, it is above all necessary to download the certificate in PDF format on your computer. Depending on the links, the certificate will either be automatically downloaded or it will appear in a tab of your browser.
Download the certificate
If you download the derogatory travel certificate on the government website, the document will automatically be uploaded to the folder Download.
On the contrary, if you opt for a download using our download service, the PDF will be displayed in a new tab. It will therefore be necessary to load it on your computer. By pointing the mouse towards the top of the page, a menu bar is displayed, revealing certain options and in particular the possibility of downloading the document. This is also how you bring up the zoom options on the right side of the document. Then click on the icon representing an arrow and a line. Save the document in the folder Download.
Here we are in possession of our document, it remains to print it in several copies on one sheet. Of course, it is possible to perform the same operation with the acknowledgment of professional travel.
Windows
If you are using Windows 8, you can open the certificate with the Reader application, the default Windows viewer. The new document made available by the government allows certain fields such as name, date of birth, place of birth and current address to be filled in directly.
With this program, the trick works. In our example, we choose to create the same document four times. You must then enter 1; 1; 1; 1. We must then specify to the printer driver that we want to print the document several times on one page. You must then click on More settings and select, in our case, 4 in the option Pages per sheet. Surprisingly, the preview does not show the duplication of the document. You can then start printing. If your printer offers duplex printing, consider duplicating the document enough to print on both sides of the sheet.
With other versions of Windows, you can download PDF-XChange Viewer, a PDF reader, one version of which is free. Again, the previous trick used works. Once installed on your computer, open certificate and click on the printer icon. Then fill in the part Pages with 1,1,1,1 and choose Multiple pages per sheet. Surprisingly enough, the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader no longer supports our printing trick.
macOS: everything with Preview
With the latest version of Apple's operating system (Catalina), we have not been able to find a solution to artificially duplicate the document in the printer driver (we await your comments if you know a solution). You must therefore prepare a new PDF document containing as many pages of the document as you want to print per sheet side. For this, we will use the Preview software delivered by Apple. The document viewer allows you to join multiple PDF documents to create just one.
Open the derogatory travel certificate with Apercu and Select "Presentation> Thumbnails" to display the page thumbnails in the sidebar. Then select the menu "Edit> Insert> File page …" Then choose the document again. This will simply line up under the first page.
To save, select "File> Export to PDF". You can now print the new document by choosing the right options.
In the option Layout, choose the correct number in Pages per sheet to make the copies you want. It only remains to launch an impression.
If you do not yet have a printer for your work, we advise you to consult our buying guide on inkjet printers at the lowest cost on the page.
