Digital medicine: These trends of recent years are already part of everyday life
[ad_1]
There are quite a few digital health trends – many of them, such as virtual reality or nursing robots, are still a long way off. And some trends of the past few years are already part of our everyday life. An overview.
3D printers, digital tattoos, artificial intelligence or the Internet of Things – these and other future topics will continue to gain importance. We have already compiled a brief overview of the trends in medical IT in an earlier article. However, some trends have now made it into our everyday lives and have become an integral part of our lives.
Patient empowerment: The informed patient manages his own health
Patient empowerment is not only used by doctors for chronic sufferers and their relatives to increase adherence to therapy. More and more patients are actively finding out about their health, clinical pictures, therapeutic methods, medical interventions and operations as well as alternatives to the OR on the Internet. To do this, they write patient blogs, comment on health forums or use so-called health apps for self-tracking or quantified self. The patients measure their vital signs or fitness values such as blood pressure, calorie consumption etc. themselves with the help of health apps. Although the results of this self-measurement among doctors are controversial, users are finding it more and more popular, which will continue in the future. Whether now Health tracker, medical apps, wearables, fitness monitoring or smart watches – patients and their relatives are increasingly informing themselves about their health and are increasingly using eHealth, mHealth and online platforms. In the meantime, every third student measures his health online. We have already reported on how patients actually use these digital health aids.
eHealth, mHealth, Health Cloud: digital networking and personalized medicine make our lives easier
At the Darmstadt Clinic, all doctors now have tablets on which they can access current values and relevant information about patients. But ideally, digital networking should also involve the patient. So-called health clouds enable doctors and patients to exchange medical data, images and information with one another online – without any unwieldy patient CDs or paper reports that only find their way to the patient by post or fax. In addition, personal health solutions are in increasing demand – small, portable medical devices for health home use that are suitable for telemonitoring. ehealth consultation is slowly arriving at doctors and patients
Telehealth is on the rise worldwide. In Germany, too, there are more and more collaborations between health insurance companies and medical associations. In addition to regular treatment, doctors are learning from first pilot projects to use telemedical applications, such as the online consultation via ehealth conference. And meanwhile, the health insurance companies even pay for it. In any case, there is no shortage of enthusiastic patients for telemedicine. As PwC found in its health study, almost one in two Germans would pay for medical services and products themselves if they could use it to get health services faster and more easily. And to be able to control their own state of health themselves, many people would also like to take advantage of new offers.
