Dual electric toothbrushes for kids: Oral-B Junior vs Oral-B Kids Star Wars

Some manufacturers, like Oral-B, are launching models of toothbrushes specifically to educate the little ones about dental cleaning. This is the case of the Junior and Kids Star Wars references that we compare in this duel.
Characteristics
The context
The two toothbrushes of Oral-B, Junior and Kids Star Wars, are both intended for the quenottes of our toddlers, at a reasonable price since they are now available at less than 30 €. These two models are intended to educate the little ones in daily brushing in a fun way.
Ergonomics and ease of use: Oral-B Kids Star Wars
From the outside, there are few common points between these toothbrushes. One wears a costume bearing the effigy of the famous Disney film saga, Star Wars – hence its name -, while the Oral-B Junior has a green coating. These two models are pleasant in hand, but special mention is made of the Junior toothbrush which has two silicone bands adhering to the sides, which facilitates gripping and is practical when the hand is wet. Both are very light, 100 g for the Junior and 106 g for the Kids Star Wars. Thus, the grip by the child is easier during the 2 minutes of brushing required. For both models, the motor marks four short downtimes to indicate that the recommended brushing time (2 min) has been reached, before starting again.
We regret that the Junior electric toothbrush only offers one brushing mode, unlike the Kids which has two modes (Softness and Cleanliness).
In addition, only the Kids model benefits from an application called Disney / Oral-B Magic Timer. This allows the young user to collect Star Wars stickers after each successful brushing; a small game in augmented reality also allows to summon the characters of the saga. It remains for parents to agree to kindly entrust their smartphone to their offspring for an app with fun functions, but without any real interest in children's dental health. We regret that, despite its Bluetooth connection, the Kids Star Wars toothbrush is not equipped with motion sensors; it would have been a real plus to identify via the application the dental areas forgotten during brushing.
Note that these two electric toothbrushes benefit from tilt and turn technology, which means that the round brush makes up to 48,800 movements per minute (compared to around 600 with a manual toothbrush). If this rotation is very fast, the brush heads of these two models remain soft and the brushing delicate. Brushes offer the possibility (specific to Oral-B toothbrushes) to perfectly clean the teeth located at the back of the mouth.
On the brush head of the Oral-B Junior, there is a blue marking at the end of the bristles which serves as a wear indicator, which is not the case on the head of the Kids toothbrush. The latter however remains in the theme since it is covered with a drawing inspired by the universe of Star Wars. Oral-B Kids also offers in its box a set of four stickers to personalize the bottom of the toothbrush handle. Count around € 4 per new brush for these two models. It is recommended to replace this accessory at most every three months.
Noise: Equality
We measured exactly the same sound level for these two toothbrushes, namely 65 dB (A), which remains fairly discreet for this type of device. Note that we measure the sound level of an electric toothbrush by placing it 20 cm from the sound level meter. This roughly corresponds to the distance between the mouth and the ears.
Autonomy: Oral-B Junior
The Oral-B Junior ran for 36 minutes before shutting down completely, while the Oral-B Kids ran out of battery after 31 minutes of brushing. At the rate of two brushings per day, this amounts to approximately 9 days for the Junior toothbrush, and almost 8 days for the Kids.
As for the charging time, the Oral-B Junior again emerged victorious in this round since it took about 10 hours to fully recharge against 15 hours for the Kids. In both cases, we recommend recharging them overnight. A charging base is delivered with each of them.
Verdict: Oral-B Kids Star Wars
At the end of this duel which confronts two Oral-B toothbrushes for children for less than 30 €, it is the Oral-B Junior which wins, with a short head! If it is a little less enduring than its opponent, the Oral-B Junior has however small improvements that make the difference: smart health connected, it offers fun services to toddler while brushing. In addition, it has two brushing modes allowing the young user to choose between a Soft brushing or a Clean brushing. To spoil nothing, the Kids Star Wars is an original model that should appeal to young fans of Anakin Skywalker or Chewbacca. Let's not neglect the Oral-B Junior, which is a very good model of electric toothbrush that will convince children over 6 years old without any problem.
