Duel of stick vacuums – Dream V9 Pro Vs Dyson V8 Animal +

[ad_1]

The shock of the day pits an old legend still very valiant (the Dyson V8) against a newcomer with long teeth (the Dreame V9 pro). Who of the old lion or the young wolf will win our votes? Answer at the end of this duel!

Characteristics

The context

The market for stick vacuum cleaners is growing in size in France (76 million euros more than last year, up 21%). A pioneer in this category, the Briton Dyson benefited for several years from competition, which was after all quite limited. But things have changed in recent years and new players have felt the right vein. Today, many of them want to grab a few crumbs from this juicy cake and ride this insolent market progression. This is the case for example of Dreame which recently released its V9 Pro and which we have rated 4 stars. And to see if the new wave is up to the old guard, we chose to oppose this last device to a heavyweight in our comparison which recently suffered a star fall, lowering its rating to 4: Dyson V8 in its Animal + version.

Convenience of use: Dreame V9 pro

Our two challengers are stick-type stick vacuums. This means that both have the engine block, the filtration system and the collector placed near the user. They are oriented in all directions, equipped with the suction tube or not, with a squeegee or a brush, to access nooks and crannies difficult to access as well as high surfaces, shelves in particular. Both the Dreame and the Dyson therefore need a wall base to be stored in the best conditions. And, in either case, simply place the device in it to start charging; a good point.

The 60 grams difference between the weight of the V9 Pro (1.66 kg) and the V8 (1.60 kg) is not enough to tip the scales in favor of one or the other and neither should not weigh on the arm, even after a long cleaning session. What is more, they turn out to be as agile as each other, cashing in without flinching the many tight turns that we have imposed on them.

The handling of the Dreame and that of the Dyson are exactly the same. To start aspiration (and continue it) you have to press and hold the trigger; this method increases autonomy since the engine is no longer used as soon as the pressure is released, to move a piece of furniture in particular. On the flip side, the finger muscles are a little more stressed than with a continuous suction model. The control panel is completed by a remaining autonomy indicator which takes the form of three diodes on our two competitors. We have known much more precisely. Finally, the major difference between the V9 Pro and the V8 at this level is the number of available suction powers: two for the British, three for the Chinese. The power selection button is roughly similar on both machines.

The V9 Pro and the V8 are also stingy in additional functionality one than the other. The intelligent suction head that recognizes the ground on which it passes is for absent subscribers. We also forget the LED ramp on this famous head which makes it easy to spot litter under furniture or on dark floors.

The similarities between the two models even nestle in the accessories. The Dreame V9 Pro is supplied with a long nozzle, a flat nozzle (both equipped with a retractable brush) and a motorized mini-brush. And apart from the V8 Animal Plus and the suction tube, the box contains a long nozzle, a flat nozzle, and a motorized mini-brush.

For additional suction power, the Dreame V9 Pro wins the first point.

Aspiration: Dyson V8 Animal +

Except on long pile carpets, the suction results between the two devices are very similar. And this for a very simple reason, the brush of the suction head of the V8 (with its two rows of bristles) is much more suitable for all types of soil than that of the "soft roller" type of the V9 Pro.

Therefore, even without engaging the boost mode, the Briton collects 100% of waste in two minutes (98% in one minute). An almost perfect result which is explained by the action of the brush which comes to beat the surface and which the Chinese is far from reaching. Indeed, after 120 seconds of cleaning at maximum power, there is still 43% of the waste in the thick loops of our Review mat.

On fine carpet and at maximum speed, the two stick vacuum cleaners show very close suction efficiency; 97% for the Dyson in 30 seconds, 99% for the Dreame.

On hard ground, the V8 sucks up all the waste in thirty seconds while the V9 Pro achieves an efficiency of 98% in the same period of time.

Logically, the Dyson V8 Animal + is essential in this round.

Maintenance: Dyson V8 Animal +

Emptying the Dream V9 Pro collector requires pressing a key to open the hinged bottom; a simple and hygienic operation. Admittedly this is sufficient in the vast majority of cases, but nothing comes to self-cleaning and it is possible to see dust sheep remaining trapped in the collector; they will therefore have to be removed by hand.

This operation on the V8 Animal + requires a little more effort since it is necessary to pull the filter block completely upwards to open the articulated bottom of the tank. In return, a rubber blade scrapes the edges of the collector to dislodge all the trash and send it to the trash. This avoids putting your hands in the collector to dislodge clusters that could get stuck.

Cleaning the rotary brush is as easy on the British as on the Chinese. The roller of the latter is however a little simpler to extract from its housing, since there is no tool to use. Reinstalling is not a problem.

The filtration of the Dyson V8 is simply perfect: at the end of the aspiration of 20 grams of cocoa, the foam filter and the HEPA filter remain immaculate. The dust is therefore completely redirected towards the collector and does not risk blocking the pores of the filters with the consequence of reducing the suction power. And if this were the case, the different elements are very easy to remove, clean and replace.

The Dreame V9 Pro does not fail and also offers a very effective muticyclonic filtration system which will avoid having to clean the other elements of the system too regularly. And it is also a good thing; because if you can remove the main filter as well as the foam filter and the HEPA filter from the V9 Pro without complication, you cannot separate the collector for a real deep cleaning; an option that the Dyson V8 offers.

The victory goes to the Dyson V8 Animal + here.

Battery life: Dreame V9 Pro

For Dyson as for Dreame, we have to believe that the cleaning is done in small apartments.

In normal mode, the Dyson V8 sucks for 25 minutes, 30 seconds less than the Dreame V9 Pro. On the other hand, in turbo mode, the Chinese is a little less enduring than the British: only 7 min 50 s against 9 min.

To hope to extend the cleaning session, you have to turn to the Dream V9 Pro in eco mode; we then reach 40 min 40 s of autonomy.

Advantage to the Dreame in this area which is also a little faster to recharge than the Dyson (154 minutes against 180 minutes).

Noise: Dreame V9 Pro

Launched to the maximum of their possibilities, the two challengers know how to be heard and emit 73 dB (A). In normal mode, the V9 Pro (66 dB (A)) is still more discreet than the V8 (70 dB (A)).

The Dreame V9 Pro wins this final round.

Verdict: Dyson V8 Animal +

Despite very slight disadvantages here and there compared to the V9 Pro (less suction power, slightly higher sound level …), the V8 Animal + knows how to focus on the essentials and provides better suction benefits, while being simpler to maintain. In our opinion, the Dyson proves to be more versatile because of its brush, more comfortable on multiple surfaces than that of the Dreame which is only fully expressed on fine carpet and hard ground. The British wins experience, but the Chinese does not deserve it and the V9 Pro remains a very recommendable stick vacuum cleaner.
