Echo's new Wake Word will delight Star Trek fans

Amazon has unveiled a new Wake Word, the wake-up call, for its Echo speakers. That word is "Computer". It will allow you to trigger the Alexa voice assistant.

This new Echo watchword is much more sensitive to accidental activation, yes, but it's also a dream come true for Star Trek fans who watched the original series and the TNG crew members talking with the computer systems on board the vessels.

Obviously, if you find that your Echo is accidentally triggered too often, you will be able to revert to the old wake-up word … but it's still a lot less fun!

If you're lucky enough to have been able to control one of Amazon's Echo speakers through various channels, you can find this functionality in your Alexa app. Specifically in the specific Echo device settings. You can choose your Wake Word from the four that are now available.

As a reminder, Echo is a smart health connected speaker that allows you to control your smart health home one day. It's a bit like Siri, Google or Cortana… but in a speaker. The audio accessory is smart health connected to the cloud via WiFi. Seven microphones are positioned around the top of the speaker. It can also use the now famous IFTTT service to send information to applications that you use regularly. With the new Alexa channel from IFTTT, you could save a lot of time.

Its biggest problem today: its availability in France. If Echo is already available in the United States, the speaker remains unavailable in France. No date for pre-order or marketing is advanced by the American giant. It is easy to imagine that it is necessary to adapt the voice assistant for each language and that, consequently, that the deployment is a little longer than for other products.
